I'm been saying this was coming and was usually met with replies involving goats and lovable losers...I think many now realize these ain't the old Cubs.

I'm completely on board with this. I'd much prefer Soler though.

Cubs are scary as heck. I wonder how they'll play that OF. Soler in RF, Schwarber in LF? Maybe Zobrist in LF and Baez at 2B? Trade Baez or Soler for a CF? Can Schwarber catch? In any event, that is one scary offense and with enough supplementary talent to still add pitching depth. The Reds aren't going to be competing for the division title for a long time.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    No kidding.

    97 wins last year.

    Add Heyward and Zobrist.

    Growth from Soler and Russell.

Figure out a way to maximize Schwarber.

    Bryant may regress a bit.

I'd take the over on 100 wins.

Last off season, everyone handed the Nationals the NL East, and many thought the Tigers were favorites for the AL central. #gottaplaythegames
The team Matheny described several times this weekend as the team he thinks the Cardinals could be, is actually the team the Reds have become.

Every Cardinal fan on Twitter suddenly:

"Whatever. I didn't want Heyward anyway. I've been talking to like 4 outfielders online lately. Things are getting pretty serious with a couple of them. You wouldn't know them, they're from Canada."

Cubs had zero serious injuries or setbacks last year.

Just going to leave this here:

    Jay Bruce from ages 22-26 (through 2013): 118 OPS+
    Jason Heyward from ages 21-25 (through 2015): 111 OPS+

Can you imagine the reaction if the Reds extended/signed Jay Bruce for $130M after 2013? Now imagine paying him $190M or so (rumors are Heyward got less than $200M - but it can't be MUCH less, can it?). Don't get me wrong, Jason Heyward is a good ballplayer, but his defense isn't THAT good to make up that kind of difference. Right?

Cubs supposedly aren't done..looking to trade for another arm. Indians are on their list. Indians were interested in Frazier too. Could there be a 3 team trade that lines up here?

Frazier to the Indians, Carrasco or Salazar to the Cubs, and prospects from Indians/Cubs to the Reds to facilitate the rebuild? I could see it.. On paper.

Maybe this is what the Cardinal fans were referring to when they called Heyward a "trader".

I assume the Cards will try for Gordon.

The losers in the Hayward/Gordon races might have interest in Jay Bruce or Todd Frazier.
