Fingers crossed; Hopefully Luis Castillo's physical goes well

I refuse to have a negative initial reaction to this - I view this as a positive for the new GM. Flipping Straily off of one good year for a legit pitching prospect is exactly the kind of move an aggressive front office should be trying to make. If the Marlins indeed kicked in a legit pitching prospect, this is more than worth the effort.

Moves my needle from "profound ennui" to "say! perhaps a plan" - much appreciated on my end.

If this trade goes through this is a REAL NICE move by Dick Williams. Straily, while a solid pitcher, was picked up for nothing and profiles as nothing more than a MOR at best. We have many prospects that can fill that spot. In return we get:

    1) Luis Castillo: a really nice SP pitching prospect. He can hit 100 MPH and is still growing into a starter's workload. Though just turned 24, he's reached AA and shows a lot of promise.

    2) Austin Brice: a good bullpen piece. Dude touches 100 also and has already reached MLB level. I see him as a guy that can be a better version of Jumbo Diaz.

This also shows that the Reds are confident in using their rookies from the get go. I'm all for it.

Isaiah White is the third player in the trade.

    @JimBowden_ESPN
"REDS get Castillo, Brice and White in deal for Straily."
OF Isaiah White, who was a third round pick in 2015

Love the deal so far. Castillo is a big arm who last year transitioned to starting and seemed to do pretty well. He probably comes in as our 4th best pitching prospect now behind Reed, Stephenson, and Garrett. Also Brice is a good looking bullpen arm who could help immediately. I am generally in the "Straily was smoke and mirrors camp."

That would be the #5, 9, and 16 prospects in exchange for Straily

As I just listened to Strailly being interviewed on the Reds podcast yesterday, I hope to find a Brandon Phillips interview to listen to today.

FWIW BA and Baseball Prospectus have Castillo #2 behind Braxton Garrett in their 2017 rankings. I believe the ones you are referencing are MLB.com's midseason rankings.

This smoke and mirrors idea where is this coming from.
Strailey is a FB pitcher so he should have a low babip especially in GABP and with our outfield D. And because of this he will always way outpreform FIP.

Good trade. Has shades of the Alfredo Simon deal to it. Very similar thread as well.

BP also has Isaiah White as #10.

If this is the return on Straily, they really need to look at moving Disco.

Not saying they should trade him, but man....
