    TJ Friedl: Ceiling, ETA, Fit

Outside of articles commenting on how savvy of a move it was for Dick/Walt to pick him up, I haven't seen much written on Friedl's ceiling, how quickly he could move through the farm, and where he might fit once he does.

Any comparisons so far as ceiling is concerned?

Any prognostications on how quickly he could move? He's only a couple months younger than Senzel

Could he spoil any possible Billy extensions? Or is he looking more like a solid bench bat/defensive sub?

Not gonna lie, that HR he hit today in his first MLB spring training AB looked mighty nice. Makes you wonder.

Pure speculation is reaching the majors in 2020 and establishing in 2021. Ceiling is a Brett Gardner type player but realistically he'll make a nice fourth outfielder.

Ceiling is a young healthy Mantle or Eric Davis in the first half of 86.
    Floor is Brady Clark

    Likely who knows yet

When arrives? If he is decent I could see him progress fairly quickly as he did have college time. Maybe 2019

Clark was a useful fourth OF and second division starter/ strong-side platoon guy.

I suspect Friedl's floor is far below that.

He might well not make the majors at all.

That said, the start to his career has been fun to watch. I'm a fan.

Nearly all the reports I've seen considered him a 3rd-4th round talent. I'm keeping my expectations around there but will monitor him throughout the season. A plus defender in center field with plus speed and an average hit tool should result in at least a backup outfielder. At best, I see him as Peter Bourjos with a better OBP and more stolen bases. He still has a very long way to get there though.

Bourjos was an exceptional defender. Does Friedl have that type of glove?
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

It is just awfully early to even speculate. His floor as a hitter is Ryan Wright probably. Who knows what his ceiling is. Let's see what he does in a full-season league and see how he adjusts once the pitchers start adjusting to what he does well/doesn't do well. If he goes to Dayton, you can watch him in person or on MiLB TV. I am optimistic that I will like what I see, but very curious.

Friedly now 2 - 2 with a BB on the Spring Training season.

He'll be sent down today or tomorrow, but he's had a nice result in his limited AB's.

Interested to see his progress at Dayton.

He won't be sent down. He's not in big league camp. They just brought him (and some others) along on a given day.

    Semantics, thy name is doug.

He'll be relegated to minor league camp.

While the Dayton OF is indeed crowded, is Friedl capable of moving up to High A that quickly?

He is a 24 year old, injured, regressing minor leaguer who isnt even a top 350 MLB prospect. He will never sniff the majors
