What is a first-round pick worth at the NHL trade deadline?

The challenge in the NHL is that the draft is hit and miss. In the NFL you're probably getting a starter, in the NHL who knows after the top 5 or so. That said, like any drafting team, if you do your homework you can get some great players no matter where you pick.

I'm hoping my Hawks deal some players and get more picks. Unfortunately all the players they need to move have NTC/NMC in their long term contracts.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

If the "disgusting" racial taunts of today involve chanting "Basketball, basketball" at a black hockey player, then we are progressing as a nation.

Trade deadline winners and losers: Rangers, Capitals, Flyers, Rick Nash, Evander Kane, Mike Green

I'm a Rangers fan. I barely recognize anyone on the team at this moment. That's not a bad thing, but they waited way too long (like years) to move Nash.

The Jackets have been a little disappointing this year, but I was at the game tonight and that thumping they put on Washington was satisfying. Hoping they can make a run down the stretch and build on last year.

Big comeback win for the Blue Jackets tonight. Remember, it's not whether the Capitals can be had in the playoffs, it's just a matter of who gets them.

That was fun. Sports is fun sometimes.

I know even if they get this series the Penguins will wait, but I don't really care. Long past time for the Jackets to win a playoff series, and it's a young team.

NHL playoffs are the best postseason as far as I'm concerned, it's team sports at its best (as is the Final Four)

What got into the Penguins the other night? Was there some score to settle?

My heart can't take all the OT. Awesome Blue Jackets series so far. I'll be in attendance Tuesday night.

Vegas is in the Stanley Cup finals. This is a bit absurd. Amazing story.

I would guess the NHL would rather have games in the Stanley Cup finals in Vegas than Winnipeg.

    Poor Winnipeg.
