Coincidentally, I discovered yesterday that my grandmother used to date Chuck Yeager (which makes a number of family stories, such as my step-grandfather's jealousy of Chuck's fame, more understandable). I never would have thought Sam Shepherd would go first.

Great playwright, btw. I thought True West was fantastic.

Is it just me or is ALS making a "comeback"? I feel I have heard of more people dying of complications from it the last couple years than I ever have in my lifetime. Maybe its just in my younger years i wasn't as aware of that's what some people were dying of?

I think people may be more open about such things than they once were. The phrase "after a long illness" used to cover a lot of ground.

Just had a friend die of ALS a few months ago.
When I see the 2016 Reds, I see a 100 loss team and no direction.
