My Dad tried to take a picture of totality, but didn't have the right filter so it didn't work.

He said that there was a flight flare coming off the side of the corona that looked amazing and that Venus is fairly close to the Sun and was very bright for a couple minutes.

The great Wolf Skoll is devouring the Sun. Ragnarok has come. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth. And maybe popcorn.

Overcast here in Napa Valley, so didn't get to see any of it.

The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge." -- Isaac Asimov

We had clouds that moved in literally two minutes before totality, so that dampened the effect but it was still pretty cool.

I live in northern KY & travelled outside my driveway into the cul-de-sac. its a beautiful cloudless day.

I had 2 paper plates with a pinhole in one of them.
a neighbor had a box of cheerios with a pinhole in it.
another neighbor had glasses he got at the library. the eclipse was much more impressive with these.
then another neighbor who is a welder came out with his industrial welding glasses. even better pics even if we all just took quick looks.
(the neighbor with the library glasses is a retired ophthalmologist who said even with special glasses he wouldn't look too long).

the outside light is noticeably less. the heat from the sun is noticeably less.

I regret not traveling. I will not make this mistake in 7 years. Also, it'll be a birthday present.

I agree. We won't have far to go either. Totality is the only thing here. Partial eclipses, even 90% or so here, is no big deal.

2024 it'll be on Monday April 8th. The Reds had better not open late that year...

I can just go to Dallas in 2024. Sure beats Beatrice, NE or St. Joseph, MO.

That would be cool but would require a touch greater investment than I'm willing to make.

Having been to Dallas, I'm not so sure.

edit: Just looks at the path, and it goes through Hot Springs, Arkansas. Hot Springs beats Dallas easily.

Not to mention Cleveland. Cleveland can be lovely in April.

My full experience with Dallas involves driving through it twice, once in the pouring rain going west, the second down from Roanoke (TX), going Southeast, then turning Northeast, which is probably why it struck me as being sprawling and crowded. I may not have given it a chance.

    But Hot Springs is nice.
