    Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather....

So, as a big boxing and MMA fan, this weekend is incredibly entertaining.... Mostly from the aspect of just "people watching". I can't wrap my head around actual people who think that Conor McGregor has a chance in this fight. It's been high entertainment to hear some of the rationalization for why not only he has a chance, but will somehow win.

If this were an MMA fight - Conor would win within 30 seconds. Zero doubts. Zero question. But, this is a boxing match. Floyd has not been in trouble in a boxing match, like, real actual trouble since he fought Jose Luis Castillo in 2002. It's the only real fight that he may have actually lost, even though he did get the win in the fight. How someone believes that Conor McGregor is somehow a better option to beat him than Shane Mosely, Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Marcos Maidana, Ricky Hatton, Diego Corralas or Canelo Alvarez, well, it's incredible.

I'd LOVE to see Floyd get knocked out. I really would. But the chances of it happening are about the same as mine of dating Anna Kendrick. Sure - it's possible. But the odds are otherworldly.

I'll be shocked if this thing goes more than 6-7 rounds. Floyd may not have a bunch of power against elite level boxers, but he's not fighting that guy. He's fighting an amateur boxer. He's not going to Mike Tyson 1-punch knock Conor down, but he's going to put him on the canvas with some combos.

Anyways, those are my thoughts. I'll be chipping in my money to buy the fight with some friends. But, I'm far more interested in the reaction to the fight (and the pizza that we will be buying).

Is anyone else going to watch this spectacle made for us idiots willing to pay bunches of money?

Edit: I can't spell Conor properly. It won't let me edit the poll options, or if it will, I'm just too stupid to figure it out.

The combination of a 4.30am ring walk and the fact that I don't have much interest in actually watching the fight means I probably won't be watching.

I'm a boxing fan and think the whole things been a bit of a circus. Scripted and pretty boring. I can't wait until it's over and we can focus on Golovkin vs Canelo.

Something I do care about is the result. I hope it's a pretty convincing win for Floyd, as it should be.

Max Holloway said it best about McGregor - he's always looking over the fence, trying to find the next great thing. I'd be surprised if he KO'd Mayweather, but I wouldn't be stunned. He's a better overall fighter than Mayweather by far, and has zero reason to be afraid of him.
Arise and walk, come through. A world beyond that door is calling out for you. Arise and walk, come through. It's calling out for you.

The only interesting thing is to see if Mayweather might take a dive to set up a rematch. If he wasn't risking a perfect record I could see it, maybe.

There's no legitimate way McGregor wins.

If I had about 50X as much money as I currently do, I'd absolutely be in Vegas this weekend for the spectacle. I wouldn't go to the fight, but it's going to be wild out there.

I considered going out and laying down a fair amount of money on this fight, because it's as sure of a lock as you'll ever see in sports.

The only thing that stopped me is that I don't trust Floyd not to throw the fight.

I did see a betting slip a week ago where someone laid down $800k+. I think they'll win, but that's a lot of money basically betting a fight will be on the up and up. I don't have that much trust.

One of the $800k+ bets was from a Maloof. So it's about like me betting a couple hundred bucks.

If Floyd doesn't KO him in the 1st round, it's a win for McGregor no matter what happens to him after that. It's come to this for boxing in order to get people interested. What are they going to do when Floyd retires for good?

One of the better fights that is out there is in 4 weeks - Canelo Alarez vs Gennady Golovkin. Promote the crap out of that fight. It will actually be a good one.

That McGregoris a way better overall fighter doesn't mean anything tomorrow night though, because they aren't having a fight. They are boxing.

And while I'll give you that McGregor isn't afraid of Floyd - you don't get to be that caliber of a fighter by being afraid of other fighters - he probably should be. He's going to get pounded. Over and over and over. If he lands more than 10 actual, real punches in the fight it will be one of those personal victories. I feel like a good bet would be what number is higher: Rounds before McGregor loses or punches landed by McGregor multiplied by 2.

Re: Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather....

This is a few days old now, but at the MGM there have been 6200 bets placed on the fight. 6000 of them are for McGregor. 200 of them were for Floyd.

    Betting totals on McGregor: $672,000
    Betting totals on Floyd: $740,000

Tourists and such are betting small amounts on McGregor. Be it stupidity, naivety, or just hoping for some miracle and a decent pay out, they are making small bets. The big money, however, is coming in on Floyd, because, as Redfaithful said - it's about as sure a bet as you're ever going to get in sports.

I'd be interested to see what the limit is at each book for what they'll cover on this fight. I know that the odds say it's closer than it should be, but that's so they can try to balance out the money. What's the limit on a real bet, though, one where they feel it's just not worth taking because they know the real odds here are 10000/1.

What I wonder is if it does go more than a round and Floyd had Conor in trouble; if Conor - by pure instinct - just starts going all MMA on Floyd.

    There's no way.

But, I do think that some people are buying the fight because they think that it's an actual possibility.

No way? So it's impossible that if Floyd has Conor in a predicament that Conor just takes him down or gives him a kick tot he head just by force of habit? I mean he'd be DQed but I think it's a possibility.

If McGregor gets concussed? Sure. But that's the only way.
