    Girardi out as Yankees manager

    SportsCenter‏
    @SportsCenter 2m2 minutes ago

Breaking: Joe Girardi is out after 10 seasons as Yankees manager, sources told ESPN 1000's David Kaplan.

I imagine he'll take a year off but if I were the Reds I'd be gauging interest ASAP.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Dusty is over here waving at Cashman.

If Giardi wants to come back next season I would imagine the Nats would oblige.

One thing to consider is the Nationals are super cheap, I've heard stories about their penny pinching. We know the contract lowballing of Bud Black which led to them hiring Dusty, who was happy just to have a job. But Girardi won't manage for nothing.

Yeah, I heard they were paying Dusty about half of what he was making here.

I was a skeptic his first few years with the Yankees, I thought his one and done with the Marlins didn't indicate a whole lot, but he won me over in large part due to his bullpen usage. I think he's easily in the top 1/3 of managers in baseball.

I think he's the best in baseball at handling a pitching staff. For a few years people were insisting the Yankees were toast because they didn't have pitching and every year he cobbles together a working rotation and bullpen.
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

    910 - 710; 28-24 in post-season; 1 WS ring w/ Yankees.

He's no Dusty, but the results are there.

And if I'm not mistaken, this Yankees team was considered a year or two away and they ended up a game away from the WS.

    $2,000,000,000+ payroll in that time

The question is if Girardi is a good manager or not. Having 2B of payroll over the last ten years probably has a lot to do with it.

Tigers, Blue Jays, Rangers, Mets and Angels have all had cray high payrolls too. It helps, but it by no means guarantees winning.

Yea I know this has been said. It also goes without mentioning that the Yankees were just shy of $200M payroll for this season. Its kinda hard to say a team is a year or two away when they have a top 5 payroll in all of baseball.

Girardi did have a decent record as a Yankee manager, but sans the Dodgers, its been the team that has spent the most money during his tenure. Personally I don't think Girardi is in the upper echelon of managers and wanted to know what others though.

Very few had the Yankees doing anything before the season started. The general consensus was 4th in the AL east.

I forgot about the Black debacle. If the Nats stay that course no way Giardi goes there. No way for the Reds either. I doubt they spend big money on a manager at this point.
