Yeah it was quickly forgotten but some were quite upset that the Reds DFAed and lost him to Boston. He didn't hit a lick last year in Pawtucket.
I dont care, Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. Hes in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.

Last year in Triple-A, 94 wRC+. He just hit three home runs. The year before, also three home runs. Not a lot. Nothing that would ever catch your eye.

Two things Vincej did do, however: put the ball in play, and put the ball in the air. Vincej, over a full season in Triple-A, struck out just under 12% of the time. About 37% of his balls in play were grounders.
Based on the industry response to Vincej, front offices arent so enthusiastic. Anyone couldve had him, and still hes no longer on a 40-man roster. Hes not nearly as young as a typical prospect, and he was a late-round draft pick to begin with.
But every team would acknowledge weve entered a weird era. An era in which fly balls that used to die on the track are sneaking out in greater quantity. Maybe thats about to stop happening. It probably wont. And this is all still so new that industry evaluations might not yet be properly adjusted. In a 2013 or 2014 context, Zach Vincej isnt very interesting. In a 2017 context and beyond?

Was just about to come on here and post this article. Most definitely makes some interesting points.

I just don't see it. Vincej simply doesn't hit the ball hard enough. Sure, they've got one data point that he hit a ball 105 MPH. He's never hit more than 5 home runs in a season. He's only topped 3 home runs in a season once. He's about to be 27. That power ain't coming.

It's amazing how much better Vincej got between September and when the Reds released him. Why, I recall when people were complaining about having him in the lineup.

I’ve made it a rule to never get upset over the last guy cut from the 40-man. It’s just not going to be worth it 95% of the time. Even though at times the Reds may make a decision I wouldn’t, it doesn’t make it a big deal.

I have too much of my life ahead of me to die on the Zach Vincej hill.

I was somewhat buying into the idea of Vincej as a no-hype sleeper going into last year, but he didn't do anything in 2017 that he hadn't done already in Dayton in 2013. Just seems like org depth.

    Re: Zach Vincej lost

My takeaway wasn't that Vincej will ever develop anymore power than he currently has really, it was more that his current hitting profile in the minors, could translate better at the big league level than AAA due to the juiced balls in the bigs. Weak fly balls are leaving parks at much higher rates than ever seen before, so to me the author is saying it is possible Vincej could get a sizable gain from that boost in rates without actually increasing his skills. Now that is a big IF.

So in summary, interesting points, but doesn't change my view of Vincej as roster fodder that I don't plan to lose sleep over.

I'm relieved. Thought for a minute that this thread had come back to life for another 100 posts.

You think we can’t turn the Kivlehan re-signing into another 100 posts?
The team Matheny described several times this weekend as the team he thinks the Cardinals could be, is actually the team the Reds have become.
