Re: Roy Halladay dies in plane crash

Shocking and tragic news. I didn't know about this until I was on my way home yesterday. Halladay was an outstanding pitcher who cemented his fame with that no hitter against the Reds in the 2010 playoffs. He will always be remembered as one of the best pitchers of the early 21st century. I am sure he will be posthumously inducted into the OF in a few short years. RIP Roy Halladay.

I read there are only like 20 of these type planes in existence, and 3 of them have crashed with 2 of them being fatal crashes.
Also apparently now video and witnesses have come out saying he was flying in a very not-safe manner, to the point they pulled phones out and were videoing it right before it went down.

A video was released of Roy showboating over the Gulf of Mexico. Thankfully he didn’t have anyone on board with him and he didn’t crash into a boat.

TMZ Sports has obtained footage shot by boaters who say the ex-MLB star's plane was going from 100 feet in the air down to 5 feet and then back up again ... repeatedly.

The boaters were so shocked by the flying pattern, they pulled out their cell phones to capture the bizarre dips and rises.

Really sad he died, but, like the Fernandez death, this could have and should have been easily avoided.
What would you say.....ya do here?

We'll see what the investigation shows but I think you're right. Let's hope there's no drugs or alcohol in his system.

Sad. Aside from the adventure part of this, I wouldn't have the stomach to fly like that. I'd be pukin' my guts out. This has to be horrible for his wife and kids to know that he brought on his own death after being warned about it.

Reminds me of the funny story my Dad told me once when he was complaining about my Mom smoking in bed. He said to her "if those ashes catch this bed on fire and kills me I'm going to be awfully damn mad." I'm sure Mrs Halladay is awfully damn mad.

Morphine, amphetamine and an insomnia drug found in his system. Didn't see that coming.

    Morphine?!

That’s some heavy stuff. Would have never guessed that.

OK folks....not condoning drug use, but how long do these drugs stay in one's system? Pot stays around 30 days, according to reports. Can one say that he was taking said drug at time of the crash?

I’m guessing it started with OxyContin, and guessing he was using it to deal with pain from his arm injuries.

Blame drugs all you want but his death was a direct result of careless-ness. The same guy that invented these planes (if you call them that) died a few months prior.

Feeling invisible is probably incredible, but also incredibly stupid. His family is now paying that price. Rest in peace Roy - you were undoubtedly a great pitcher and from everything I've read a great person.
