    End Of Season Awards

Couldn’t see another thread about these so thought I’d start one. A lot of angry folks on twitter/the web regarding Goldy being awarded the silver slugger over Joey. Is there really any argument in favour of Goldy apart from RBI?

He’s a great player but Votto clearly the best 1B hitter if not best overall hitter in the league this year?

He also scored more runs than Votto.

    So, take that!

    Colour me convinced Doug!

Can also make a very strong case for Zack over Seaher but I suppose he doesn’t play for a West Coadt media darling club.

Cozart should have won the Silver Slugger Award as well.
The team Matheny described several times this weekend as the team he thinks the Cardinals could be, is actually the team the Reds have become.

He got the "team made the playoffs" bump.

I don't mind Seager here. Fangraphs offensive value has them at 25.3 and 25.1 runs, with Cozart ahead. The difference is small enough that the error bars could swing it either way. Cozart had the better slash line, for sure. But he also missed 40 games.

Now, Joey Votto.... he got screwed out of this award. There's zero argument that he wasn't clearly the best hitting first baseman in the National League.

Anyone else selfishly happy Votto isn’t winning these awards? I can see it adding fuel to the fire and creating even more of a monster.
"Today was the byproduct of us thinking we can come back from anything." - Joey Votto after blowing a 10-1 lead and holding on for the 12-11 win on 8/25/2010.

Does this guarantee he doesn’t win MVP? Does this guarantee Goldschmidt does?

    I️ still go with Stanton

No. Votto has more MVPs than he does Silver Sluggers.

    Re: End Of Season Awards

Looks like Goldschmidt’s year on the awards circuit. DBacks made the playoffs, that’s the critical reason. He’ll probably get the MVP as well - with Stanton and Votto on non-playoff clubs. Goldy already with the GG and Silver Slugger.

If Votto wants more awards (not sure he cares, really), he should urge the Reds to speed up their rebuild and get to the playoffs, or at least get close.

Votto probably deserved the Silver Slugger among all players in the NL regardless of position, although one can make a case for Stanton with all the homers.
