    I️ still go with Stanton
Per 757690 this is coaches and managers voting, MVP is a different group- writers. Managers and writers sometimes are not in agreement,

Having thought about the MVP vote, I think Votto has a shot.

In a two man race with Stanton or Goldschmidt or maybe even Arenado, I think Votto would have fallen short. He didn’t have the glamor stats like Stanton, HRs and RBIs, didn’t make the playoffs or come close.

But if the race is close among three or four guys, with no single player dominating, I can see Joey edging out the others. Should be interesting.

Voters will probably never admit it, but a team's place in the standings impacts voting for awards, imo.

How about two separate awards, MVP of a contending team and MVP of a team in the gutter.

Because that's almost as bad as how it's currently viewed by some.

It’s moving toward “best offensive performance” or BOP.

Is it? Who was the last guy who was punished because his defensive contributions were overlooked?

I’m just thinking relative to the old essay question of who was more valuable to his team.

The team Matheny described several times this weekend as the team he thinks the Cardinals could be, is actually the team the Reds have become.

I'm sure Bryan Price narrowly missed this year. Oh, wait...

i'm not gonna lie, I had to look up to see who he manages (and to confirm that he exists and that 757690 hadn't just made the name up).

Torey Lovullo would make a great guest on the MLB version of To Tell the Truth.

I had to look him up too, but I did guess that it was either the Diamondbacks or Rockies.
