EdE is a HOF caliber phenom who has always shown signs of being an amazing player.
Votto is a perennial DL player who had one decent year in 2010 and has been a Scott Hatteberg clone every year since.
I would trade Latos, Votto, BHam, and Cueto for EdE straight up.

Votto is my favorite Reds player since Tony Perez, and I'd be fine with him a Red until the end of his deal, but I'd do it. Those last five years of his deal are going to be problematic IMO. EdE is signed for a couple more years at a bargain and will put up similar but not quite as good production. Production at a bargain is what it will take for this team to fill all of it's spots IMO. There always seems to be an Adam Laroche type available and for $25 Million per year that would be available, I'd bet they could get one and solidly fill a middle of the rotation spot as well.

Deal aside...I'm just very skeptical of Votto's legs allowing him to be anything beyond a shell of himself.

If the Blue Jays picked up all of Votto's salary I would consider it.
Larry is almost always "in character." He isn't serious.
You would probably have to throw in Frazier and Chapman to get the deal done, along with the Reds agreeing to be responsible for at least half of Votto's future salary along with some Skyline gift certificates.

I think the internet has exposed us to so much serious stupidity in written form that it's ruining our ability to sense satire and parody in the same form when we don't pay enough attention to or are unfamiliar with the source.

Seriously? Yes. Votto and his contract for EdE and his straight up? I really, really like Votto and think he'll have some great seasons but the tail end of that contract is going to be brutal. That's the rub nowadyas - it isn't always who is the better player but which is the better value going forward.
99% of all numbers only tell 33% of the story so when looking at the numbers remember that numbers is plural...
