Reds Will Try Nick Senzel At Multiple Positions In Camp

The Reds' No. 1 prospect, Nick Senzel, will need to purchase some new gloves for some different positions next year.

When Senzel arrives at his first big league Spring Training in February, he will be given looks at multiple spots.

"I think he's got the talent to play a couple of different positions, and we're going to let him do that," Reds general manager Dick Williams.

Williams likened Senzel's potential trajectory to former Reds All-Star third baseman Todd Frazier. When he was taken 34th overall in the 2007 Draft, Frazier was a shortstop. As a prospect, and during his early days in the big leagues, he played numerous positions -- third base, first base, second base and left field.

Just play him at 2b then if your org is so anal about not making the Suarez move to SS. Peraza should be the super sub multiple position guy who's bat you don't over expose.

I don't see any harm in trying Senzel in different spots.
He might find that he likes or feels more comfortable at another position
    It didn't hurt Geno any.

I'd be tickled if they tried him in CF.

I think his speed is good enough for Senzel to be more than up to the job.

    I don't think that's their plan, but that's what I'd do (assuming I couldn't find a deal I'd like).

If he does end up at 2B, they'll have to find someone to take Scooter relatively soon.

Good move. He's got the athleticism to learn different spots. Eventually, he'll settle in somewhere. But this allows the team to explore more options in trade.

I hope he ends up in the outfield somewhere. I just think it would be crazy to unload Gennett right now.

Why not figure out what position he can play and would help the team most, penciling him in at 2b limits our options quite a bit more vs Senzel playing LF/2b/RF possibly.

I think Winker is going to be the LF eventually but sure why not see if he can play RF. As long as it does not mess with his bat.

Well, if Senzel moves to 2b, the lineup would be:

    1b Votto
    2b Senzel
    SS Peraza
    3b Suarez
    LF Winker
    CF BHam
    RF Schebler
    CA Barnhart

And if he moved to RF, it would be something like:

    1b Votto
    2b Gennett
    SS Peraza
    3b Suarez
    LF Winker
    CF BHam
    RF Senzel
    CA Barnhart

I prefer him at 2b, as I think Schebler is likely to out produce Gennett. Use Gennett as trade bait (I've suggested Gennett for Marcus Semien).

I just don't see Billy Beane going for that. What would be in it for the A's? They already have a second baseman.
...the 2-2 to Woodsen and here it comes...and it is swung on and missed! And Tom Browning has pitched a perfect game! Twenty-seven outs in a row, and he is being mobbed by his teammates, just to the thirdbase side of the mound.

Given Raisor's status, I suggest FCB's first born, instead.
