    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Cowboys signed franchise player LE DeMarcus Lawrence to a one-year, $17.143 million contract.

That didn't take long. Lawrence was slapped with the tag earlier Monday and wasted no time signing it, guaranteeing himself the full $17 million and change for 2018. The two sides have until mid-July to hammer out a long-term deal. Lawrence and Ezekiel Ansah were both tagged ahead of free agency.

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

The NFL announced the salary cap has been set at $177.2 million for 2018. That's a $10.2 million increase from 2017. Over the last half decade, the salary cap has risen close to $60 million. With players making more and more each year and the league raking in billions, the cap will continue to rise.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

    Falcons re-signed K Matt Bryant to a three-year, $10.5 million contract.

Bryant has been outstanding the past two seasons, nailing 68-of-76 (89.5 percent) field goal attempts. Bryant has connected on at least 85 percent of his field goals in seven of the past eight seasons. He turns 43 in May. Despite Bryant's advanced age, he will remain a premier fantasy kicker in 2018.

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Dolphins signed franchised player Jarvis Landry to a one-year, $15.982 million contract.

Landry signing the tender means the Dolphins are no longer able to rescind the tag, which could be a concern with seemingly little movement in trade talks -- The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson tweeted a trade is "not imminent." The Dolphins are over the cap as it stands now, and while cutting guys like Lawrence Timmons and Julius Thomas will give them some room, it will not be enough to really be a player in free agency. Miami needs to find a trade partner for Landry.

Timmons would be a nice add for the Bengals linebacker rotation.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

ESPN's Jordan Raanan did not rule out the possibility of the Giants having five new starters on the offensive line.

RT Justin Pugh, C Weston Richburg, and RG D.J. Fluker are all free agents, LG John Jerry is just a replacement-level player, and LT Ereck Flowers has struggled each of his three seasons in the league. It seems unlikely there is that much turnover on the unit, but the line certainly will be one of new GM Dave Gettleman's top priorities this offseason.

The Eagles have raised the bar high in the NFC East, and as we've seen in the NBA Western Conference because of the Warriors, most Owners have a competitive nature and raise the bar for their franchise.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

If the Bengals were half-way serious and had one iota of a competitive nature, they'd raise the bar of that franchise (wouldn't take much raising) and get themselves a quality Center. They still should be looking to rob from within their own Division, but Richburg would also work. The statement it would make to the players, let alone the fans, would be one of action instead of the usual banter and coachspeak that comes through the mouth of Marvin Lewis.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reports teams are looking at impending free agent Weston Richburg at center and guard.

Richburg has been at center the last three seasons, but he was a 15-game starter at guard as a rookie in 2014. That versatility could earn him some extra money, but Richburg is already one of the top interior linemen available on the market. He has been linked with the Jets.

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld commens:

NJ Advance Media reports the Giants are interested in impending free agent CB Patrick Robinson.

Robinson had a standout season for the Eagles after signing a one-year deal last March. He is looking for more money and a longer-term commitment this time around, something Philadelphia is likely unable to offer due to their cap situation. In addition to the Giants, the Cardinals have been linked with Robinson.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

MMQB's Peter King reports the Eagles expect to lose LB Nigel Bradham in free agency.

Bradham was a key cog in the Super Bowl Champs' defense, recording 88 tackles and a return touchdown across 922 regular season snaps. Philly is already paying Mychal Kendricks a king's ransom, however, and will get Jordan Hicks back from injury, making Bradham an expensive luxury for a team with no cap space. Bradham is Rotoworld's No. 1 available 4-3 linebacker.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

MMQB's Peter King reports Penn State RB Saquon Barkley was given a perfect draft grade by one team.

King writes it is just the fifth perfect grade that team has given out in the last 20 years. Saints coach Sean Payton said, "He’s the best running back prospect I’ve seen in 25 years." With the tape to match a monster Combine, Barkley looks like a serious candidate for the No. 1 overall pick, and it would be an absolute shock if he slips out of the top-five.

I'm seeing mock drafts where 8 to 9 Quarterbacks are taken before the Bengals' pick comes up leaving them to take the draft's #1 LT from Notre Dame.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald expects free agent LT Nate Solder to field offers "north of" $12 million annually.

Solder's preference is to stay with New England and while he could take somewhat of a hometown discount to make that happen, Howe cautions that the Patriots must field a "competitive" offer or risk losing him. Per Howe, Solder can probably expect an offer in the range of $52 million over four years or two years for $28 million if he's looking to sign a short-term deal. If Solder leaves, LaAdrian Waddle and Cameron Fleming would be the leading in-house candidates to replace him at left tackle.

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Saints signed S Kurt Coleman to a three year, $18 million contract.

After being released by the Panthers, Coleman visited the Bengals and Saints. The veteran safety will turn 30 at the beginning of April and has seen his play steadily decline over the past two seasons. Signing Coleman will help the Saints fill their void at safety after letting Kenny Vaccaro walk.

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports expects the Cardinals to move on from DB Tyrann Mathieu this offseason.

La Canfora came to this conclusion "based on everything" he heard at the Combine this week. Mathieu saw his play decline in 2017 and is owed a $5 million roster bonus on March 16. Pewter Report's Scott Reynolds threw out Tampa Bay as a possible landing spot for the Honey Badger should he become available. Jason Licht, who now serves as Bucs' GM, was instrumental in drafting Mathieu when he was VP of player personnel for the Cardinals.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

From Rotoworld (Mar 2) with Rotoworld comments:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Dolphins have acquired DE Robert Quinn from the Rams.

The Rams are getting back a fourth-rounder in April's draft while the two sides are also exchanging sixth-round picks. Quinn was a first-team All-Pro in 2013 and amassed a whopping 40 sacks between 2012-2014. He missed 15 games in 2015 and 2016 but played in all 16 last season, notching 8.5 sacks as a stand-up 3-4 linebacker. He'll go back to his traditional 4-3 end spot in Miami, joining Cameron Wake and 2017 first-rounder Charles Harris. Quinn, 28 in May, is signed through 2019. The move saves the Rams a much-needed $11.4 million against the cap but creates a gaping edge-rusher hole.

From Rotoworld (Feb 28) with Rotoworld comments:

    Jets released RE Muhammad Wilkerson.

Wilkerson earned second-team All-Pro honors in 2013 and 2015 before signing a five-year, $86 million deal in July 2016. Once he was gifted all that cash, Wilkerson seemed to mail it in, routinely showing up late for team meetings, giving questionable effort on Sundays, and failing to stay out of the trainer's room. The Jets suspended him for one game in December. This move was a lock to come down the chute this offseason and saves the Jets $11 million versus the cap. Wilkerson turns 29 this year and should have a handful of interested teams.

He has a scheduled visit with the Packers.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Following Thursday's release of DeMarco Murray, third-year pro Derrick Henry is now locked in as the Titans' lead back.

Locked into a 2017 timeshare with an ineffective Murray, Henry was up and down, but generally excelled with bigger workloads. He was one of the league's best clock-killing backs, punishing defenses in the second half. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry after the break as opposed to 3.1 before. Henry is still a question mark in the passing game, but should have at least the first two downs on lockdown. He's a potential first-round pick in fantasy leagues.

    Re: 2018 NFL Season Thread

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Rams acquired CB Aqib Talib from the Broncos in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

It's the Rams' second trade for a corner in two weeks, and gives DC Wade Phillips a veteran frontline starter to pair with volatile, young pro Marcus Peters. The Broncos had decided that 32-year-old Talib was no longer worth his $11 million salary — the trade terms confirm the move is a salary dump — but he remained one of the league's better corners in 2017. Durable, Talib has remained extremely consistent. He's reuniting with Phillips after two years together in Denver. The Rams have done an excellent job of rebuilding their cornerback corps on the fly.

    Source: James Palmer on Twitter

Rams own the NFC West with the 49ers, not the Seahawks, as the 2nd best franchise. I truly expect Seattle and Arizona to both struggle to win 8 games while I see the RAMS winning 13 and San Francisco 8 or 9.
