    2018 Minor League Transactions

It is 2018, thought we might could use a new thread.

    Cincinnati Reds
    Signed: LHP Dean Kiekhefer

Just saw this transaction from late February. Kiekhefer's a Louisville native and grad who posted good numbers in relief up and down the STL Cardinals system and tossed about 20 non-descript big league innings for them. Didn't fare too well last year out in Tacoma but that's a tough environment in general. Wouldn't be surprised to see the 'Hefer put up a low ERA for the hometown Bats and get some clamoring for him and his 87 mph heater to get a callup. Or maybe he'll get released before the minor league season even begins, who knows.
I dont care, Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. Hes in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.

    Re: 2018 Minor League Transactions

A couple of weeks ago the Reds signed catcher Tony Sanchez to a minor league contract. The soon to be 30 year old was once a top 50 prospect in the game, when he was with the Pirates organization.

With him and Cruz as insurance the Reds can risk placing Turner on waivers if need be.

Never got over that knee injury with the Yankees. Chapman trade will at least go down in history as an example for why trading a major leaguer for vague "young talent" isn't really a strategy, a modern day Kansas City A's tale.

Wait a minute..... we are getting cash from Miami? Miami?
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

Is it safe to say the Reds didn't win the Chapman deal? Just wondering.

The Reds have released: Andrew McKirahan, Jake Paulson, Marcos Encarnacion, Jared Mitchell, Reydel Medina, and James Vasquez.

McKirahan is who the Reds received from Atlanta when the Reds sent them BP and 13M$.

Paulson was drafted in the 27th round of 2014

Encarnacion was signe as an IFA out of the DR in 2013

Mitchell was signed as a Rule 6 Minor League Free Agent

Medina was signed as an IFA out of Cuba in 2013

and Vasquez was drafted in the 25th round of 2015

I thought McKirahan still had LOOGY potential but it's possible they didn't like what they saw post-TJ. Paulson had a decent year last year but he is 26 and was still in High A so no big shock. Vasquez stopped hitting after leaving Billings in 2015.

But I have to admit I'm sad to see Funky Cold Medina go, even if the odds if him ever making any sort of impact were slim and none.

Paulson didn't go very far. He signed with the Indians.

The world is a messy place. People are inconsistent and complicated. Maybe we should see how different things could be if we gave grace and forgiveness to our fellow human beings when they fail to be perfect in our eyes. -- me

Did we have this (from transactions on the Reds' website)?

3/25/18 Cincinnati Reds signed free agent LHP Kevin Canelon to a minor league contract.

BaseballAmerica had the Canelon signing back in December. Here's what I said:

Canelon is pretty young for a MiLB free agent, he turns 24 next month, and had a strong season in A+ for the Mets splitting time between starting and the bullpen. He put up a 2.87 ERA with 78 strikeouts to 16 walks in 78.1 innings.
