Funny you mention that, here's a corollary my previous corollary:

On top of Nance and Clarkson playing well for the Lakers they had PERs or 21.5 and 15.4, respectively, for the Cavs. Per 36 minutes for the Cavs Clarkson scored 20.1 pts and Nance scored 15.4 pts with 12.1 reb. I know those sorts of numbers don't always translate with added playing time and some guys wilt with added exposure, but they played well enough to merit starting gigs.

And Kevin Love had a very good season. He gets a lot of heat because he gets exposed in the playoffs, but he shot 41.5% from 3 and gobbled up defensive rebounds. If he sticks around, and there's an excellent chance he won't, it's not hard to imagine him having a big season with the offense running through him. If Nance and Clarkson are solid too, the Cavs have a core that doesn't suck. If Sexton adapts quickly, Thompson returns to functional or Osman/Zizic can become reliable rotation players, that pushes the team closer to respectable. I'd still recommend a tear down, but the Cavs might have some fight in them. Might make sense to hold Love to see if he can increase his trade value by playing well for a better-than-people-assumed team.
Wait until the year after next year.

Yeah, I was going to throw in the coaching, too, but I didn't see them enough to make that judgement. (I've seen Giannis, up close, and from a distance enough).

But what about Lue? We have yet to see him Coach a game.

Not that anyone cares, but no writer has picked up on Olshey repeatedly saying that Evan Turner is the backup PG. No more lineups of Turner, Lillard and C.J. together. Seth Curry is the backup "2", while Baldwin is the 5th Guard. Olshey wanted shooters surrounding Turner on the 2nd team, thus Stauskas, Curry and Trent, Jr. The backup unit is: Zach Collins/ Caleb Swanigan/ Turner/ Curry/ Baldwin. Stauskas, Layman, Trent Jr., Simons and Leonard are 3rd team. 1st team remains: Lillard, C.J., Nurk, Moe, Aminu.

One issue for Blazers: They have to get rid of $8M in cap by the February trade deadline. It would be stupid to trigger the luxury tax cumulative years penalty, which they are guaranteed to be over in 2019-20 over a measly $8M for 2018-19. Olshey will be working until February to fix this problem. Even Paul Allen doesn't want to give $40M+ (the extra penalty) away needlessly.

Who can the Blazers tie a 1st round pick to save that cash: Turner, Harkless or Leonard? Or would they move Nurkic? I suppose they could move CJ.

And if they're taking a real shot, they've got to upgrade Harkless. No idea how they can do that while cutting payroll, but that's why GMs get paid.

Leonard makes $10M and moving him hurts the depth the least.

Upgrading Harkless would have required going way over the cap, as that much talent would have cost a lot.

Nobody is taking Turner, even with an unprotected 1st thrown in. They are paying $4.5M in dead money on stretched out contracts now. Stretch Leonard's $10M, and that might do it.

Ideally, we would trade for an All-Star Wing, but Olshey won't move C.J., so I don't know how he thinks it's going to happen. He said during Summer league he tried and will continue to try to make a deal. Lillard said, "He must have tried. It's out of my hands. I can't control it."

Don't look now, but the Kings have a lot of depth now. A lot of growth has to occur, but it should be fun to watch. I forgot who their Coach is, sadly.
