Are you kidding’ I’ve seen Billy score when infielders catch pop ups with their backs to the infield.

It wouldn’t have mattered where the OF was, Joey’s ball wasn’t being caught.

The royals were playing the percentages to prevent one run.

It wasn't pretty through eight innings but we did a great job to rally when the going got tough. A win is a win and this one feels good.

Two in a row and one was a Romano start that went deep into the game. Our bullpen has gotten some rest.

Didn't follow the game. Came home to find that a Reds starting pitcher went eight innings. Eight freekin' innings!

Is this the best start by a Reds pitcher since 2015? Feels that way. I think the city needs to throw him a parade.

KalDaniels rightly pointed out the 2K's. You compare that with Reed's 11K's and 2BB's in 7.2IP today (in AAA), and we are left wondering which one of them has more hope.

Realistically, we are looking for some sort of ray of hope, thus your enthusiasm in posting about your surprise by a RED going 8 innings. Romano did one important thing here...he guaranteed himself at the very least, three more Starts to see if he can do it again. That keeps Bailey from replacing him for at least that long.

The REDS are looking for someone, anyone, who can go 8 innings, even if it is at a spacious Park against a poor Offense. The 2 K's suggest that he got a lot of help, as in balls being hit at fielders. Ian Kennedy was accomplishing the exact same thing. It was strange.

Reed's strong effort included his usual propensity for giving up crushing blows, 3 Doubles and a Homerun among 6 hits, giving up 4 Runs in a game his team lost by 3 when he left. He failed to keep his team in the game, despite the 11 K's.

We all know Reed has better stuff than Romano, but Romano has managed to give himself this chance where Reed blew his in a horrific effort last season. Reed should get another shot before Bailey, but it seems he won't.

Romano is the next Pitcher to be replaced, but if there's anyway tonight's performance is a stepping stone for Romano to seize this opportunity that he's been given, I hope that the next time he pitches, he's gets the same luck he had tonight and that the balls that are hit finds gloves instead of turf. One Homerun was the only damage, by a guy who had hit only one coming in.

A Tucker Homerun to lead off the 9th and destroy Kennedy's 8-Inning gem, follower by a 9th-Inning shutdown allowing Votto to do his magic in the 10th with a bases-clearing Triple. A Votto Triple. That may have been the last one he ever gets, as he may as well stop at 2nd most of the time. Perhaps being a DH gave him an extra gear?

    Re: 6/12/18 Reds @ Royals

We all know baseball is a game of adjustments.

Tonight's suggestion that "Ugh!" should be placed on the back of Duvall's baseball card for 2018 is a reminder that no matter how much some of us were suggesting that he'd regress to a lower OPS than he had for the first half of last season, nobody thought that he would be this bad. He had the mono, or chronic fatigue syndrome, or whatever was ailing him, but an offseason of rest should have eliminated that excuse, if in fact it ever really was. What's happening this year is a complete meltdown rarely before seen in baseball. This is his age-29 season, one of his peak years. Yes, he could be on the downside, but not like this when it comes to making contact with the ball.

Duvall's just guessing at the plate, and he's really bad at it. You can only be guessing to be this bad. He's so out of touch with how to approach a Major League Plate Appearance that no adjustment is taking place on the part of the Pitchers. They can throw him anything to get him out. Changeups, Fastballs, Curveballs. Every pitch can get him out. They don't even have to go to the Slider, a pitch that he'd surely have trouble with if he actually started figuring out how to approach a professional at-bat. Duvall is guessing so badly that he continually looks at a strike when the At-bat's best opportunity goes sailing past him.

How do you help a guy who is 29 and guesses at the plate, guessing wrong now for the last year? You don't. You replace him with Winker and have Tucker call the pitches to try to avoid balls being hit to Left Field.

Nobody wants Duvall. He's a pinch-hitter when you need a Homerun and a Defensive Replacement for Winker late. That has value, but won't get you a prospect. Keep him and release him at the end of the year. Limit him to 60 PA's the rest of the year.

Wow! An eight inning game by Romano. I didn't know a starting pitcher could go that long! Reds really needed that. I know the Royals are terrible. Probably worse than the Reds but this could be a nice shot of confidence for Romano. Sometimes that's all you need to turn things around. Let's hope so anyway.

worthy of reading the post game writings from Kansas City. one could interchange the teams names, the owner having but not spending, the ss versus cf obp, and the best outing gone for nothing by the starter.

The Royals were in back to back WS in the last five years. I mean, hard to put too much heat on Royals ownership right now. Everyone knew they were going to stink, but that's a lot easier to take when you've had actual success recently.

Also, the Royals ownership tried to spend....and ended up with Alex Gordon.

Accept KC has a recent history of success.

I've been in denial, but I'll try.
