    Minor League Games of 7/11/2018

Greenville with a very early start. Looks like India got the day off. Hunter Oliver has singled and homered.

Sounds like Lyon Richardson looked better.

Best start of Lyon Richardson’s young career today in Kingsport.

    Final line: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO on 54 pitches (34 strikes).

Gradually getting better with every appearance. #RedsCountry

    India with day off.
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

Maybe they saw something and want to work with him on the side.

Meh.. he is probably just a little fatigued..yeah, he last played a couple weeks ago, before his pro debut, but is now getting adjusted to a new routine. Like others have stated, Senzel didn't exactly light the world on fire, after his signing. I am will to give it up to the 'hype' and pressure he might be putting on himself, but on a positive note, he does seem to have a good eye for the strike zone, given his walks.

So, is this what we are to expect from Quackenbush if he gets called up? He gave up 2 runs in 1 inning in the All-Star game. As we see time and time again, it's a huge step from AAA to the Majors.

So, Varner finally lost. He pitched well though. He struggled with his command with a Hit Batter, Wild Pitch and 4 Walks. But, none of those five scored. He picked one off while another was caught stealing. He managed 5 K's in 6.1IP. Jack Kruger did all the damage with a 2-Run HR, a Double, where he stole 3rd and scored, but that was it. 3 runs given up and a loss. I'm ready to have Varner move up to AAA already. He needs more of a challenge while they try to stretch out his innings/pitches per start.

Never mind on moving Varner to AAA. Just read the thing on Baldwin. Leave Varner there. Bailey is the one who should be there, too.

You know Quackenbush has a history in the majors already, right?

No. I don't know. So, it won't be deer-in-the-headlights for him. That's good. It will just be command of the mental part of the game and to be aggressive when he gets the chance.

He's 29. He had three full years of some success with the Padres already. He was much less effective for the Reds to start the year before being sent down. He's definitely not a kid who you worry about the mental transition to pitching in the big leagues. More of a question of if he has the stuff to get people out at this point at that level...

I'm not sure if 1 inning in an exhibition game is indicative of what to expect when a play gets called up to the majors.

I'd be more inclined to check the much larger sample size of his AAA stats for a better indication.

Does anyone have info about changes in Varner's pitching this year? In three of the previous four years including the last two, his BAA was over .300. This year it is .204. He has, as you might expect, been particularly tough against LH batters. The differences are dramatic enough to make me think something has fundamentally changed. Much improved breaking ball?

Speaking of improved Pensacola performances, note that Jesus Reyes has a 1.32 ERA over last ten appearances. Could he be in the Cincinnati pen by year's end?

Said it before and I'll say it again. He should be the closer when the Reds trade Iggy.

    Jesus saves.

The question got answered with his previous ML experience. So, his one inning was just a hiccup, nothing more.

Maybe. As it said in the article, Baldwin got him through the mental part of the game and he'd be best served with a little more time learning from Baldwin. Probably want him to go to AAA first.
