    I'm Retiring!!!!!!

I've been a member of this forum pretty much since it's inception. And in that time I've become friends/acquaintances (don't think I made any enemies on here LOL) with a lot of people. Even developed a stronger relationship with those I got to personally meet via those crazy Redszone Get-togethers (I still go through those myriads of pics I took). So yeah, you're like an extended family to meet. So I wanted to share this good news with you all!

After 4 years in the Navy, 24 years at Honda, 40 years in factories total ..... my lovely wife of 38 years (Jackie) and I are RETIRING! We sat down with our financial adviser this past weekend - I'm 62, and my wife 63 - and laid it all out on the table. I felt we always did what was needed financially to get to this point; but until we actually heard it from the lips of our adviser - and he said we did it right, a solid job - there was always that apprehension, that fear of "Did we do enough?". There was a huge sigh of relief when we came out of that meeting and had initiated the process that will have us retired some time before the new year.

What's next for us as we enter this new phase of our life? While we have mulled various ideas and options of what we want to do once we're retired (travel, etc), I'm just not thinking on that right now. First things first - get retired (LOL).

Congrats! Now you will have more time to waste on Redszone. I'm nearing that retirement time too. Still a few more years,I'm 55, but its coming fast. Just stay active and I'm sure you will have many good years ahead!

I think of this day... everyday. I just turned 50, have a ways to go. First eligible in 6 years, but I think 62 is the most realistic date.

Sometimes I feel like I cannot wait. Other days I dread the idea of NOT working.

I am 34 and the idea of doing what I am doing right now for another 28 years gives me anxiety.

Don't let it bother you. I had very similar feelings at your age. Now I accept that this is my life and I'm helping a lot of people. Furthermore retirement isn't the best idea unless you have in mind something else to do. Men especially tend to decline mentally quickly in retirement. I don't want that happening to me. I plan to do this as long as I'm physically fit. God's blessed me to this point.

I love what I do. And I still think about working less. I think maybe it's the whole part where I feel like I work too much and don't have enough time for me more so than just not having to work.

I think it’s probably because I have a second child on the way and even though I am making more money now than I thought I would be at this point in life I have a mountain of bills and feel like the walls are closing in on me and I feel like I’m having a panic attack.
What would you say.....ya do here?

I'm not sure what I can do to help with that, but I hope that feeling gets better.

My only advice would be to sit down for a moment and take stock of all the things in your life that you're grateful for.

Remember: Gratitude plus forgiveness equals happiness.
The world is a messy place. People are inconsistent and complicated. Maybe we should see how different things could be if we gave grace and forgiveness to our fellow human beings when they fail to be perfect in our eyes. -- me

Hah. I’ve been in the IT biz for over 43 years now. Right out of college. Punch cards and mainframes then. I’ve seen a lot happen.

My problem is paying for weddings (my children, not mine). The last one is Oct. 13 of this year so maybe, just maybe, I’ll be able to retire. Not sure what the hell I’ll do, but I’ll think of something.

Get off my lawn, you punks.
Freak out in a moonage daydream oh yeah
