I'm not a fan, but Urban is one of the all time great head coaches. The best a reasonable fan can realistically hope for is a slight step back.
    WHEN DOES IT STOP!?!?

I think the more likely scenario re: Barrett being his best as a freshman was Tom Hermann. The entire offense has been wildly inconsistent since he left.

Herman was certainly a critical piece, and probably the main reason that the offense was out of sync, but I still can't understand the breakdown in JT's accuracy. Devin Smith was a great deep threat, but even taking away the number of times he made contested catches, JT hit him in stride numerous times. He never seemed to do that with the guys we had last year, who this year proved to be quite good.

I mentioned last week that I didn't like holding the spot for Day for the next year (when it looked like he would become coach after next season). Too much could happen between now and then.

But if they did a cursory look around and Day is the man right now going forward, I'm perfectly fine with that. Frankly, the coaching carousel seems a little light right now.

Anyone could use him if healthy but I don't think any of us want him on the sideline with an uncontrollable cyst in his head. I want what's best for his health

Agreed. Urban is a "great one". Great ones are rarely followed by other great ones.

And even if Day is great, it's unlikely that he's going to equal Meyer. Meyer is being talked about as the #2/3 college coach of all time. The success he's had at every stop is remarkable.

Hard to compare guys from different eras....but I would be one that would say that Urban is the GOAT.

I think what is unique here, is Urban left, but pretty much everything in tact. The thing that helps with Day is that he doesn't have the assemble a complete staff, bring in new guys to perform new rolls. I am sure there will be some coaching changes, but the recruiting foundation is still there.

Making it all the more difficult, Urban was obviously a titan, but Jim Tressell was no slouch either. Meyer, thus far, has posted a .901 win percentage at Ohio State. Jim Tressell's was .828. Collectively, they were 16-1 against Michigan.

The bar has been set exceptionally high.

Urban is awesome, but you can't put him above Saban.

Yeah, I can. Saban wasn't any "world beater" at Sparty.

They weren’t before he got there either and he did have a good season before he left.

No one has ever done what he has done at Alabama.

I disagree my IU brother. I believe Saban is the GOAT when it comes to college football coaches, with Meyer definately being in the top 5.
