There has been some buzz about Hurts and Winbush transferring to OSU. I don't really know what to read into that, I think Hurts is good, but over rated. Winbush was pretty poor with accuracy issues at ND. Is Tate not cut out to play QB at OSU? I think Fields makes sense, if you can get the #2 overall player from a class, you do it. Hurts and Winbush, maybe not so much.

I hadn't heard anything about Wimbush or Hurts. Those guys don't really make sense for Day's system. He leans heavier on the pass than Meyer and prefers the Haskins type to the JT Barrett/Braxton Miller QBs. I would much rather have Tate for 3 years than those guys for one.

Dean Mathis, OSU's only QB recruit for 2019, just flipped to Georgia this morning unexpectedly. Gotta think this at least means that Fields is for sure transferring, and clearly OSU must be a real possibility

I am not huge into recruiting, but I have always felt that Mathis was depth, not a real possibility to start. If you lined things up, especially when he signed, it was Haskins, Tate, Miller over the 4-6 years. Baldwin also has to be considered now because he is "Day's" guy.

The hardship waiver seems to be BS. Georgia took care of the problem by dismissing the player. What more could they have done?

I think Fields went to Georgia thinking he had a realistic chance to unseat Fromm at QB like Trevor Lawrence did with Kelly Bryant. That didn’t happen, now he’s using that situation to expedite a transfer.

I think that’s right, but it’s really important that Fields does actually come now or we are really thin.

Doesn’t really matter. The hardship waivers have been way less stringent than ever before. Everything you said is probably right and I’d guess he has about an 80% chance of being eligible next season.

REad an article about the OSU QB situation in the Athletic that makes me feel better about things, even losing Mathis and possibly Martell. They have a pure passer in Matthew Baldwin already there and a 2020 kid in Jack Miller.

Need to get Zach Harrison though..

If they don’t get Harrison this recruiting class is a major bust.

Talent will never be lacking at OSU. They've got that part licked

Mathis is the #2 dual threat QB in the class, so I'm sure he was planning to start in a couple years. He's not necessarily a huge loss as QBs seem to really want to play for Day, so I don't see the position being an issue in the future, but Mathis looks like he'll be very good

I'm not a huge fan of the hardship waiver as I don't think that's really the reason that he's leaving Georgia, but considering the hardship waivers that the NCAA has granted recently, it seems likely that he will get it.

Little extreme. It’s a small class, but by average is like the fourth best class. All things considered it’s not terrible.

I think Harrison matters more from a narrative standpoint. Day gets a huge recruit, keeps an Ohio kid and doesn’t lose a battle to Michigan and Penn St. If he actually ends up being an impact player even better.

Its ironic that one of Urban's "must get" recruits was Justin Hilliard. He was the 5 start Cincinnati kid who Urban needed to keep in Ohio. He did, but Hilliard has never had the impact that many thought he could.

I find recruiting ironic, because there are a large portion of recruits who will pretty much remain nameless during their tenure at any university. There are recruits who were "must gets" who see special teams playing time and that is it.

Sure, but it’s a proven fact if you are not consistently at least in the top 10 of class rankings you will not win the national championship. Right now OSU is ranked 18th behind Arkansas. Read that again. Arkansas.

Right, but that has a lot to do with class size. OSU sits at 14 right now, Arkansas has 26. By average star ranking we are 4th.

But generally yes I agree with you. Day needs to get that 2020 class in the top 5 by both metrics.
