Minor League Games for 9/8/18 (Saturday)

Pensacola has its back against the wall, trailing 2-1 in a best-of-five series. One more loss and it will be time to clean out the lockers.

Daniel Wright is riding in on wave's chicane, hoping to stave off elimination. Wright (4.16) has pitched another of very nice games for the Wahoos this season. Here's hoping he has at least one more left in him.

Daytona could not be off to a worse start in Game Two of their series.

Kevin Canelon started, and did not retire any of the 5 batters that he faced. 3 hits, a walk and an error have put Daytona down 3-0 (and counting).
Aaron Fossas came out of the pen and - Surprise! - walked the first batter that he faced. Ummm, make that walked the first 2 batters that he faced. 4-0 (and counting).

How did Daytona do in their half of the first you ask? Strike out. Strike out. Strike out.

If Canelon does not get a chance to pitch again in this series, his ERA is Infinity.

UPDATE: Fossas induces a pop up, and a sac fly for the first 2 outs in the inning. Royce Lewis then goes deep. The Tortugas are staring at an 8-0 deficit. 8 runs on 4 hits. Ugh!

Billings is also in a do-or-die playoff situation.

Ricky Salinas will be the man on the mound for the Mustangs. Salinas has struck out 23 over his last 3 starts, covering 15.1 innings. That will get the job done.

Pensacola must have really been enamored with Daytona's turn at bat in the first, because they reprised it. Strike out. Strike out. Strike out.

4 more hits for Fort Myers in the second. They lead 10-zip. Uncle!

Daniel Wright gets proactive and hits a Biloxi batter with a pitch. I like it. Hit them before they hit you.

HBP, SB, SGL, SB, HR. 3-0 Biloxi.

Daytona and Fort Myers have settled down. FM leads 10-0 through five.

Pensacola got a run back in the top of the second on a Gavin LaValley solo shot. Biloxi slapped a 4-spot on them in the bottom of the second. 7-1 Bad Guys.

Time to watch some Bearcat football.

Daytona finally got on the scoreboard with a 2-run shot off the bat of Tyler Stephenson. Not that it really matters as they trail 12-2 heading in to the 9th inning.

After 5, Pensacola trails 8-1. The LaValley home run is the only hit for the 'Hoos.

On the bright side, Nick Howard worked an inning, and struck out the side.

Billings is underway, and Dylan Harris has hit a solo shot in the second. Mustangs lead 1-0.

Saying it was a bad night down on the farms, would be an understatement. 3 games, 3 losses. Reds' farm clubs were outhit 35-13, and outscored 30-5. OUCH!

Pensacola: Starting pitching - 7 earned runs in 1.2 innings. Offense - 2 hits (including Gavin LaValley's bomb), and 14 strike outs. Relief pitching - the lone bright spot. 6.1 innings, 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk and 9 Ks (Nick Howard struck out 6 batters in 3 innings on the mound). Fielding - 2 errors (Siri and Long). Pensacola left just 1 runner in scoring position.

Daytona: Starting pitching - 5 runs (3 earned) in 0.0 innings. Yes, 5 batters faced, all reached. Offense - 2 runs on 7 hits. Tyler Stephenson singled and homered. Brantley Bell singled and homered. Relief pitching - 7 runs (6 earned) in 8.0 innings. Fielding - 2 errors (Trammell and Rodriguez).

Billings: Starting pitching - 4 runs in 2.1 innings. Offense - 2 runs on 4 hits. Dylan Harris homered. Reniel Ozuna doubled. No walks. Relief pitching - 5 runs in 5.2 innings of work (Edward Escoboza struck out 3 in his lone inning on the mound, although one of the three reached on a wild pitch). Fielding - 1 error (Schuyler).

6 consecutive losses over Friday and Saturday. Daytona is the only team left in the playoffs for Cincinnati, and they are in a 2-0 hole in their best-of-five.

Tejay Antone goes today for the Tortugas.

Saturday was not a good day on the farm.
