Kershaw vs. Sale in Game 1. Hope those of us on the east coast can see the entire game.

    Re: World Series thread

Should be a good pitching matchup. But we all know how that goes most of the time. Most of the WS I watch will have come off the DVR. Starts way too late for me who gets up at 4:30 to get ready to leave for work. If its anything like most of the regular season games they will last nearly 3 1/2 hours and if Pedro Baez comes into the game tack on another 30 minutes.

I will go with the Red Sox in five games. They have convinced me they are the best team in baseball.

    Re: World Series thread

Here's a synopsis of the last time these two teams met in a World Series.

The Dodgers were not the Dodgers. They were known as the Robins.

The Red Sox had a young and coming pitcher named Babe Ruth. He won Game two of the World Series and pitched all 14 innings. Apparently no one was pitch counting in 1916. That was the only game Ruth appeared in during the World Series. He went 0-5 at the plate with an RBI.

The 14 innings was a record for 99 years until the Royals and Mets tied it in the 2015 World Series.

The Red Sox played their home games at Braves Field not Fenway Park as it had a bigger capacity. The final game at Braves Field drew a crowd of 43,620.

Casey Stengel played for Brooklyn and hit .364. Which lead the Robins.

Only three home runs were hit the entire series. Two by someone named Larry Gardner of the Red Sox.

I don't think an MVP was given out then but if there had been Ernie Shore may have won it. He was 2-0 and was one out away from two complete games.

The winning pitcher for Brooklyn in their lone win was Jack Coombs. No known relation to Jim.

One fun fact I forgot to mention.

The final game of the series went one hour and 43 minutes. I'll take the over on every game in 2018.

    Re: World Series thread

My wife and son traveled back to our former home city for game 1. I'm stuck here in the office in Kansas. I feel like I got a bum deal!

(I'm out of vacation because I'm going to Hawaii in three weeks lest anyone start to feel any sympathy. )

Braves Field still exists in part - its Nickerson field now, where B.U. plays outdoor athletics. Supposedly there is a plaque there for Cy Young.
    Where we gonna go?

    The managers.

Just in case you ever wondered what a pitcher that went 14 innings looked like.

I bet none of the umpires will be wearing a bowtie tonight.

I just talked to my Dodger-fan uncle, and he says they don't have a chance.

    Re: World Series thread

Kershaw settles down, picks off JD Martinez, and gets out of the first with only two runs scored.

    Red Sox 2-0 after 1
