"We've been through the rebuild." - Nick Kroll

I know these are just throwaway lines, but we've been getting snowed for years. I'd feel better if the Reds brass were conveying a steely resolve and an awareness that the recent past has been abysmal.

Robert Stephenson should be cut. That's just unconscious knowledge.

Certainly. I'd rather hear, "We've been last place far too long and that is unacceptable" or "We need to improve our talent." Acknowledging failure is a first step toward accountability and improvement.

Conning the marks (the fan base in this case) and up front honesty are mutually exclusive activities. Even if the Reds say they clearly intend to upgrade, it means nothing at this point. We'll get another half measure or two (post injury and fading Alfredo Simons, Scott Feldmans and Matt Harveys) and some statements about how optimistic they are. We need to see one of Keuchel, Kikuchi or Morton, before they've done anything meaningful. Then we'll need a couple from the next group. Lynn, Gio, Happ or maybe trade acquisitions like Urena, Leake or Gray (as long as little talent goes the other way). They've atrophied really far. Rolling the dice on Matt Harvey or some injury reclamation is like doing nothing IMO.

Agreed. The two greatest 3B in Reds history (Tony Perez and Pete Rose) weren't even primarily 3B during their Careers. Get your best players on the field. If a guy can handle moving positions and still be one of the best players on the team, then do it.

Once Suarez signed, Senzel’s position became uncertain. From that moment, it became a matter of need. It’s too soon to know what the need will be. Will Gennett be traded? A corner outfielder traded or moved to CF? Will a new CFer be signed? Will there be an injury opening a spot?

So while it’s interesting chatter, we’ll just have to wait and see how the off-season goes. And how ST goes.

And Nick is coming back from injury, who knows if he’ll be a Red on OD. He may go to AAA for awhile to get the rust off (and avoid too much MLB service time). He might even be traded.

There's no chance he begins the year with the Reds.

They'll stash him in the minors for a couple of weeks just to keep him the extra year.

It could be more than a couple weeks. Nick may not be on the Kris Bryant plan. He missed a good deal of time last season. He said at RedsFest he was 90% back from injury. If he gets off slowly — even if not — I could see him staying at AAA somewhat longer.

I’m confident that Senzel will get meaningful big league playing time this year, but it may not be full time early in the season.

He dropped an "L" because the Reds no longer tolerate losing streaks.
