    Re: The rotation overhaul

I am kinda happy that Cleveland and Seattle and such have thrown their hats in the ring so hopefully all of the attention turns to their pitchers. I think the Reds targets should be elsewhere. Although some have mentioned Alex Cobb and Sonny Gray (whom I think both can be had with little prospect cost) I think we should look at Dylan Bundy and Michael Fulmer (each with three years left I believe) and see if Toronto would part with Aaron Sanchez. Although these three have some unknowns moving forward, they give us the best chance towards a potential #2-3 at a manageable salary (and would not cost a Senzel or an Iglesias). On the free agent market, I think the Reds can afford Dallas Keuchel and he would fit with our ballpark. If they have to pay slightly more in Free Agency, they should do it. How does this look?

Castillo (I know, but he is the only one with potential to be #1)
    Keuchel
    Bundy/Sanchez/Fulmer
    Cobb/Gray
    Mahle/Desclafani

I think they're gonna have to make a trade first. Trade (the right) assets for at least a number 2 type. Early. Like real soon. Earn some credibility before you start talking to the free agents.

I like Fulmer as a target, but I wonder about his elbow.

Love the idea of Hicks, but the Yankees aren't dealing him for all three of Gennett, Hamilton and Finnegan. In fact, I doubt they'd deal Gray for those three. Pitching is in demand. Second baseman are a dime a dozen and Finnegan and Hamilton aren't bringing that back. especially when they can just keep Hicks. Hamilton may be able to bring something useful from a team in a big park and in need of OF defense. Hamilton probably has more value to the Reds, whose OF defense is pretty iffy outside of him, than he would have to almost any team they could deal him to. Seattle was a possibility, but not anymore. Maybe the Giants if they aren't impressed with Duggar. Maybe the D-Backs if they can't re-sign Pollack. After that, I'm not seeing it.

    Re: The rotation overhaul

Yankees get: Amir Garrett, Scooter Gennett, Robert Stephenson
Reds get Clint Frazier, Sonny Gray

Mariners get: Homer Bailey, Jonathan India, Tony Santillan, Tyler Stephenson, Sal Romano, Nick Longhi
Reds get Felix Hernandez, James Paxton

Reds don’t spend any extra money in trades and therefore are able to go into free agency and sign:
    AJ Pollock for CF
    Zach Britton or Andrew Miller
    Kikuchi or Keuchel

    Rotation:
    Keuchel
    Gray
    Paxton
    Castillo
    Hernandez/Disco/Mahle/Sims

    Bullpen:
    Reed
    Lorenzen
    Hernandez
    Hughes
    Zach Britton
    Matt Wisler/jimmy herget
    Iglesias

I don't think the Yankees would trade either Frazier or Gray for those three guys. Stephenson would be about their 10th option for either the rotation or the bullpen. They may have some mild interest in Garrett and they want a SS capable infielder if they are going to make a trade. They can get second base covered by any of a number of free agents without giving anything up.
