Through collecting some grunge items, Ive become drawn to some of the concert flyer artwork of the Pacific Northwest.
Ive been talking with one of the authors of a book called Maximum Plunder, which examines the artwork of Mike King.
Most of these artists used an exacto knife to cut up publicly available images and then pasted them to a master copy along with band names.
Weirdly, it turned into art. I love seeing these bands that led to the grunge scene- you can follow it from The Wipers of the early 1980s, all the way through Nirvana. They did posters for other bands, of course, but it is a medium where you can trace the grunge movement pretty well.
The names of some of these old bars (some are still there) are very cool. I'll post some examples later, but here are a few:
