I'm shocked he is back but happy to have him. With any significant playing time, he will break the Bats franchise hit record, which I would love to see.
The average age of a AAA ballplayer last year was ~26.5; this is the full list of players age 35 and older to appear in a single AAA game last year (this includes rehab stints): Sean Burnett (35), Robinson Cano (35), Jim Johnson (35), Bobby Wilson (35), David Wright (35), Jason Vargas (35), Joe Mauer (35), Hunter Pence (35), Manny Parra (35), Ervin Santana (35), Matt Albers (35), Mike Zagurski (35), Carlos Torres (35), Chris Gimenez (35), Brian Duensing (35), Steve Pearce (35), Irving Falu (35), Adam Rosales (35), Mike Napoli (36), Blaine Boyer (36), Oliver Perez (36), Chris Stewart (36), Adam Wainwright (36), Jose Bautista (37), Brandon Phillips (37), Ryan Hanigan (37), Santiago Casilla (37), Craig Breslow (37), Matt Belisle (38), Matt Holliday (38), Erik Kratz (38), Kyle Lohse (39), Jayson Werth (39), and Peter Moylan (39).

It's rare to see a player with so little mlb success (only 78 days in Hernan's case) who didn't play in the bigs last year, and didn't receive a spring training invite, to still be playing at that age.

All the more power to him.

You can be a retired ballplayer the rest of your life. Play till they won't let you....
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

My guess is the Reds want Hernan to stay in the organization and transition to coaching.

Buddy Boshers is fairly interesting. I do not remember much about the Pirates pen from last year, but 8.15 career K/9 against lefties, with a 1.16 BB/9 career against lefties (good for 7.00 K/BB) career in the major leagues seems like he is worth a look as a LOOGY.

Tim Adleman and Kevin Shackelford both were reunited (and it feels so good) with the Reds, signing minor league contracts. This is according to redsminorleagues.com.

    Reds Sign Ian Krol

The Reds announced today that they have signed lefty reliever Ian Krol to a minors pact. He’ll receive an invitation to participate in MLB Spring Training as a non-roster player.

Krol, 27, had thrown 188 MLB innings over five seasons heading into the 2018 campaign, pitching to a 4.50 ERA with 8.4 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9. He didn’t receive much of a shot last year, however, ultimately making just one appearance in the majors with the Angels. Krol did work to a 2.72 ERA with 9.4 K/9 and 4.2 BB/9 in 56 1/3 Triple-A frames, split between the Halos and Mets organizations.
The world is a messy place. People are inconsistent and complicated. Maybe we should see how different things could be if we gave grace and forgiveness to our fellow human beings when they fail to be perfect in our eyes. -- me

We can sure use a LOOGY. There's definitely a job waiting for someone in that area.

At any rate, activity has slowed down to a Krol.

Yes. But remember: You have to Krol before you can walk.
