    2018/2019 Prospect Poll - Prospect #13

Jose Garcia won spot #12 by a comfortable margin. On to unlucky #13 !! I haven't added any one this time but I'm open to suggestions.

Mariel Bautista (21) - CF from Dominican Republic. Signed as Intl Free Agent in 2014. Hit .330 with .917 OPS in Billings.
Hendrick Clementina (21) C from Curacao. After huge start, settled in with .268 avg and .824 OPS in Dayton.
Stuart Fairchild (22) - OF from Wake Forest University - Drafted in 2nd round of 2017 Draft. .836 OPS in Dayton but .656 in Daytona.
Jimmy Herget (25) - RHP from Tampa, FL. Drafted in 6th round of 2015 draft. 3.47 ERA in AAA. Added to 40 man roster.
Miguel Hernandez (19) - SS from Venezuela. Hit .310 with .338 OBP in Greeneville
Ibandel Isabel - (23) 1b from Dominican Republic. Blasted 36 homers with .900 OPS in Daytona. Had 28 previous year. Acquired via Ariel Hernandez trade.
Kuery Mella (25) RHP RHP from Dominican Republic. Acquired from Giants in 2015 Mike Leake deal. 3.00 ERA in minors, 8.68 in 13 innings in Majors.
    Scott Moss (24) - 3.68 ERA and 15-4 record in High A - Drafted 4th round of 2016 draft.

The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

I'll finish out my "high ceiling" group by voting either Bautista or Hernandez.

Then it's on to the "will probably sniff the majors group: Mella, Herget, Moss, and Fairchild.

Mariel Bautista's 2018 is too gaudy to ignore at this point.

I won't vote for him this time around, but could you maybe add Rylan Thomas for the next pole? I see him as a top 15 guy.

Here's a list of players with more than 100 AB and an OPS over .900 in Billings from 2005 to 2017:

    • Adam Rosales (2005) - .925
    • Danny Dorn (2006) - 1.030
    • Logan Parker (2006) - .949
    • Justin Turner (2006) - .922
    • Chris Valaika (2006) - .902
    • Brandon Waring (2007) - .983
    • Todd Frazier (2007) - .922
    • Alex Buchholz (2008) - 1.075
    • Byron Wiley (2008) - 1.062
    • Cody Puckett (2008) - .909
    • Sean Buckley (2011) - .923
    • Jesse Winker (2012) - .943
    • Seth Mejias-Brean (2012) - .925
    • Carlos Sanchez (2012) - .920
    • Phil Ervin (2013) - 1.013
    • Alex Blandino (2014) - .939
    • Argenis Aldazoro (2014) - .931
    • Aristedes Aquino (2014) - .914
    • T.J. Friedl (2016) - .968
    • Jose Siri (2016) - .908
    • Hector Vargas (2016) - .903
    • Miles Gordon (2017) - .919

My initial intent was to see whether Mariel Bautista's .927 OPS was in any way remarkable. I'd say the findings are inconclusive. I figured I'd post the list nonetheless.

    Re: 2018/2019 Prospect Poll - Prospect #13

Bautista's lifetime .313/ .379/ .457/ .836 helps put his Pioneer League in perspective. He seems to have a good hit tool and enough speed to play center. (Doug's scouting reports say he does, at any rate.) Very good steal rate, which augers well for baseball IQ. Burgeoning power might be a mirage, but at this point, a leadoff candidate who's not unafraid of walks and doesn't K too much is a solid prospect.

I'd like to see more before I proclaim him more than a middling prospect, but so far, I like what I see.

Jax, need any help with the prospect polls?

I know none of us want to step on your toes, but if you need a hand we'd be happy to help.

I wasn't trying to be rude; just started considering the time frame.

No problem. I actually went there because I knew needed to get going.
