    Re: 2019 NFL Season

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

49ers will not be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks.

Though the return of Jimmy Garoppolo and a new surrounding cast would make for enticing television, the Niners have reportedly been ruled out from being featured on this year's edition of Hard Knocks. The NFL has yet to decide which team will be held under the microscope, but remaining candidates are the Raiders, Lions, and Redskins. It would ultimately be a letdown if the league were to feature anyone outside of Antonio Brown, Vontaze Burfict, Jon Gruden, and the rest of Oakland's characters.

This would be a great follow-up to "Game of Thrones".

Lions would be a snoozefest for me... Raiders and Redskins interesting.

The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

I think the Raiders would be their most-watched "Hard Knocks" ever.

Why is Ezekiel Elliott such an idiot? Even if this was an "overreaction" by security, how could he possibly allow himself to get in this sort of situation given his history and all he has to lose? Boggles the mind.

    Re: 2019 NFL Season

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Lamar Jackson admitted he's still having issues with throwing the football consistently.

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley noted "several" of Jackson's passes "wobbled through the air" at the first week of OTAs. And Jackson agreed that things just aren't right yet from an accuracy standpoint. "It's been crazy. It's been everywhere," Jackson said of his throws. "I feel like my hand is a little too high on the football and that makes the ball go out of whack a lot." The Ravens are changing up their whole offense under new OC Greg Roman, and at the same time, Jackson is obviously trying to fix his mechanics to become a better passer in a passing league. It's going to be a work in progress and something that may truly never get totally fixed.

    Of course!

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Raiders signed OG Richie Incognito to a one-year contract.

It is a bit of a surprise Incognito is getting another shot. The former Pro-Bowler spent 2018 out of the league in part because of multiple off-field altercations and a brief stint in a mental health facility after he retired, un-retired, and was cut by the Bills. Incognito is reportedly "feeling well in all aspects," however, and was a solid player for the Bills back in 2017. He is a good flier for a team which could use a starter at left guard.

What the Raiders are doing...I've seen this play out before, and it doesn't end pretty. Look at the moves that Dan Snyder made with the [redacted] back in the early-mid aughts. Signing past their prime guys like Deion, Bruce Smith and Donovan McNabb. It was like the owner was attracted more to the name than the production that the player could actually provide.

    Re: 2019 NFL Season

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Panthers signed DT Gerald McCoy, formerly of the Bucs, to a one-year, $8 million contract.

It can be worth up to $10.25 million. McCoy picks the Panthers over the Ravens and Browns and gets to stay in the familiar NFC South and play against his former Tampa Bay teammates twice a year. The Panthers are switching to a 3-4 front, which the Bucs are also doing, but Tampa didn't consider him a particularly good fit for DC Todd Bowles' version. Coach Ron Rivera and DC Eric Washington in Carolina have other ideas and will slide McCoy in next to NT Dontari Poe and DT Kawann Short to form a lethal front. McCoy will get a better bite at free agency next offseason at 32 years old.

    Re: 2019 NFL Season

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

    Texans fired GM Brian Gaine.

Gaine lasted just one season into his five-year deal. It's an unexpected firing, but Gaine hadn't done much to improve Houston's roster during his brief time. EVP Chris Olsen will take over football operations in the interim. Finding a replacement for Gaine could be tricky given the presence of Bill O’Brien, who has a history of GM power struggles. Gaine is unlikely to be in the mix for New York's GM job, but he should resurface in a lesser role.

    Must-see TV:

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

The Raiders will be the featured team on this summer's season of Hard Knocks.

It will premiere Aug. 6 on HBO. Hopefully it has a better ending than Game of Thrones. Coach Jon Gruden could barely conceal his disdain for the idea on Tuesday, but he and his remade-on-the-fly roster will certainly make for compelling television. Gruden is one of the league's biggest personalities. This will provide a fascinating window into what, if anything, he learned from last year's disaster.

    From Rotoworld with Rotoworld comments:

Broncos owner Pat Bowlen died at age 75.

During his 35-year stint as the Broncos majority owner, Bowlen had as many Super Bowl appearances (7) as losing seasons. But Bowlen also established himself as a fine leader in the community and among other NFL owners. Bowlen helped the NFL expand its international and television presence as the "single major force in the creation of Sunday Night Football" and sat on numerous committees, earning a deserved spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Five years ago, Bowlen gave up control of the team as he battled Alzheimer's disease, but he'll be remembered for establishing a fan-first and winning culture in Denver.

I'm surprised he was only 75. Given his dementia this is a blessing
