I went with Van Meter but at this point there are about four or five guys I could easily vote for. I do think Lopez ought not to drop out of our top 25-30. There are two things I like about him. He's pitched 148, 141, 147 innings over the last three years, and his walk rate is consistently good. His K's fell off in 2018 and that is what I'll be watching about him primarily this season. But I like the ability to throw innings.

He has reached 98 mph and has a feel for 2 additional off-speed pitches already.
For me he's got to prove he's not Jeremy Kivel before I take him seriously.

I'm not sure what that means.

Kivel wasn't anywhere near as highly regarded coming out of HS and the Reds didn't have him skip the AZL either. Lyon was a consensus top 100 pick, had he not played at all after signing like Kivel did after the 2012 draft, he'd probably be ranked around 10th by us.

Throws hard, a little wild. Kivel was the same type if not the same pedigree. I tend to hold back on recent draft picks unless they've come to the pros and lit it up. By no means is that a perfect model (Ryan Wagner, Phil Ervin), but I prefer to err on the side of caution. I was unsure what the Reds were getting in Richardson on draft day and I'm still unsure of it. Doesn't mean I don't think he can be good, just that I'm not ready to rate him.

Just realized that I have subconsciously been calling the guy Lyon Richie. I need help.

Why would you leave him on when he's not a Red any more?

I'm sorry... did you say Lionel Richie?
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

Well, the Reds do have a couple of ex-Commodores hanging around now.
