    I got a new job

Some on here know me, and know that I worked in local television for about 15 years. In 2000 I saw the change coming and got out and went into web/database programming. And that's a really good job to have, especially in higher education. I'm in my 20th year doing this.

By now, you are probably wondering why this is in the minor league forum. I'm getting to that.

When I left television I was designing and updating the local ABC Affiliate's website and was the 10:00 Director. I also directed the local 1 hour high school football show. Those were a lot of fun.

Amarillo just added San Antonio's AA affiliate and renamed it the Sodpoodles. They had a job fair, and are hiring a full production staff for broadcast on milb.com and I believe Foxsports SW (in some markets).

I'm the new Technical Director for that broadcast. Well, one of them anyway. I still have my main position, as this job pays next to nothing. It's more a job bucket list item. I've always wanted to direct a live sporting event. Now, I'll get to do as many as 60 of them. Can't do the day games during the week of course. The new ballpark is really nice, and I get to tour it soon. Should be finished on time, with a little less than a month before the home opener. I'm probably going to become a bit of a Padres fan because of this, just like I am a bit of a Rangers fan. Proximity and stuff.

I fill out my hiring paperwork on Thursday. I have to admit, I'm smiling as I type this.

Outstanding. Should be a blast !
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

iirc it's a prairie dog, but easier to spell.

They don't pay much, I mean like barely over minimum. It's barely worth driving there, and the ballpark is a 2 minute car ride from work.

It's just the job... I've always wanted something like it.

    Congrats TRF, happy for you.
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

Congrats! Minor League ball is the best. I spent 11 years working in Minor League ball and this season will be my 2nd season working in Major League baseball. Going to work at the ballpark never gets old.

Re: I got a new job

My first job in the baseball industry (not my first job) was with the Richmond Roosters. I got paid for only about a tenth of my work there, the rest was considered an unpaid internship as I was also a sophomore in college at the time.

I was dirt poor, having to borrow money just to buy food and pay for my gasoline, but I was willing to do it because I knew I wanted to see where I could go in the industry and that was a stepping stone. That job, along with my 2 other internships, aided me when I ultimately interviewed for and accepted a position with an mlb club.

Congrats on the hire. Whether it leads to further employment in the industry or not, breathe it in - enjoy it!

Speaking of television, dogs and programming, it was Jeff of "Jeff's Collie" who invented dBase III.

This is probably the happiest I’ve ever seen someone be about moving to Amarillo. Best wishes!

I've actually lived here since 1984. It's a nice safe place to live.
