My guess is Reds will just go with the five starters on OD roster. Not that many off days early.

If there's an extra pitching slot for some reason, probably Peralta.

But again, there are usually surprises.

BN: Kemp, LF/DH (when Kemp starts in LF he bats 6th, Schebler bats 1st)

(Given current off days this is the opening day rotation)
    1. Castillo
    2. Mahle
    3. Gray
    4. Roark
    5. DeSclafani

    LR: Lorenzen
    MR: Wisler

    CL: Iglesias

    DL: Wood, Stephenson, Blandino
I think this is close except Mahle won't be needed until April 6, so I'd expect an extra relief pitcher until then. Depending on Wood's back, he might be ready to pitch on the 17th against the Dodgers. So Mahle might just get the one start.

Guys Mahle is slated to pitch the 2nd game of the year, he's placeholding Wood's #2 spot in the rotation.

    Just count the days.

And again, Mahle can't be added on the 6th - he must be on optional assignment for 10 days prior to a recall.

No, he's not really hitting. Add to that he's learning a new position and he's giving the Reds all kinds of reasons to send him to AAA aside from the real reason, service time.
Now his OPS is .763 which is above average. You can't use these small samples to say he's not ready when we all know he really is. He's every step of the way and nothing we have seem would lead us to believe that won't carry over.

Know is a pretty strong word.

I'm using the stats to show he's still learning. Learning a new position requires focus. He's facing the same pitching talent Schebler is, and Schebler is having a monster ST. At the same age they had very similar numbers. I love me some Schebler, but I admit he isn't a star player. But he was every bit the athlete Senzel is at the same age.
