    Marlins release Dan Straily

    Andre Fernandez
    @FernandezAndreC

#MarlinsST President of Baseball Operations Mike Hill confirms the team has officially released Straily not DFA’d. @TheAthleticMIA
    Didn’t see that coming.

“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

They've got a lot of young arms they are really high on. I am guessing Caleb Smith makes the rotation now, along with Trevor Richards and Jose Lopez.
Well, that's what those words mean. He was here. If they don't keep him, he will have been lost/subtracted. I headed out the door today with two shoes on my feet. If I don't return with them, I have lost them. If I do return with them, I haven't added them. ---M2

Ah, just remember the hand-wringing over trading Straily for Castillo.

I'd take a flyer on Straily as a long man/ AAAA guy.

He'll end up in someone's rotation.

Bringing him here just muddies the water even more and possibly interferes with The Great Breakout of BobSteve, coming to a ballpark near you early 2019.

He should get claimed, no reason why a team wouldn't acquire him for the 3.8M$ he's on the hook for (minus the 1.2M the Marlins will be picking up).

He's also arb eligible again this winter, so whomever gets him could have him next year as well.

He’s coming off an injury plagued year, and it was his elbow, so he’s a pretty big health risk.

Every pitcher is a health risk. League minimum salary does not equal big.

The fact is, he's pitched throughout the Marlins ST healthy.

And now it's been reported that he's been released to free agency. So he can be had for peanuts now.

He was not healthy last year. Missed around ten starts.

If he gets released, won't he be available at whatever cost teams would negotiate with him for?

That's $5M contract would be dead, would it not?

If he gets claimed on waivers, the claiming team would be on the hook for the entire contract.

lol initial report was a release, then it was amended to DFA, and now back to release.

I'm fairly certain Straily can land a rotation spot somewhere, especially for free, but I'd take him back for nothing.

The Orioles should already have sent a plane for him.

C'mon Dick. Go for the double-win on the trade. End up with both Castillo and Strailly!

    Correct.

Many said Hamilton in CF was a key element in Straily's Reds success. I see him in Kansas City.

I'd rather see the young guys as insurance policies for the Reds, rather than a veteran like Straily.

You can never have enough pitching. Sign him and he could be the long man and spot starter. He could step into the rotation when the inevitable injury happens too.
