Re: Kinsm's 2019 Cincinnati Reds Roster Syllabus

    Trade Deadline Update:

    On the 40 man:

The Reds purchased OF'er Aristides Aquino's contract from AAA Louisville, (0.009) years of service. He was acquired by the Reds as an international free agent from the Dominican Republic in 2011. He has one option remaining, as this is his second time having his contract purchased (burning options in 2017 and 2018).

SP Alex Wood was reinstated from the 60-Day disabled list.

SP Trevor Bauer was acquired from the Cleveland Indians via a 3-way trade with the San Diego Padres. Bauer entered the year with 4.158 years of service and is under contract for one more season. He's out of options, but that won't matter since he has more than 5 years of service entering 2020 and thus couldn't be optioned anyway. He was initially drafted by the Diamondbacks in the 1st round of the 2011 draft.

    Off the 40 man:

C Ryan Lavarnway was outrighted off the 40 man roster.

2B Scooter Gennett was traded to the San Francisco Giants with Cash$ for a PTBNL.

SP Tanner Roark was traded to the Oakland Athletics with Cash$ for minor league OF'er Jameson Hannah.

OF Yasiel Puig was traded to the Cleveland Indians for Bauer (minor league OF'er Taylor Trammell went to San Diego and minor league SP'er Scott Moss also went to Cleveland in the deal).

----The Reds 40 man roster now stands at 39.

Re: Kinsm's 2019 Cincinnati Reds Roster Syllabus

It's been a few days - that means it's time to update the post trade deadline update

    On the 40 man:

The Reds claimed off irrevocable outright waivers RHP Kevin Gausman's contract from the Atlanta Braves, He entered the year with (4.151) years of service. He was initially drafted by the Orioles in the 1st round of the 2012 draft. He'll enter the offseason arbitration eligible for the final time, the Reds will not be able to option him in 2020. The Reds are on the hook for nearly 3M$ of his 2019 salary.

The Reds purchased 1B/OF Brian O'Grady's contract from AAA Louisville. He has (0.000) years of service, as this is his first time on a 40 man roster. He'll still have 3 option years remaining and he'll make the pro-rated league minimum while he's on the 25 man roster.

    Off the 40 man:

SS Blake Trahan was dfa'd off the 40 man roster.

----The Reds 40 man roster now stands at 40.

Re: Kinsm's 2019 Cincinnati Reds Roster Syllabus

    On the 40 man:

The Reds purchased RP Joel Kuhnel's contract from AAA Louisville, (0.000) years of service. He was acquired by the Reds as an 11th round draft selection in 2016. This is the first time he's had his contract purchased and has three options remaining.

SS Freddy Galvis was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays, the Reds are on the hook for the remainder of his 4M$ salary this season. He entered the year with 6.021 years of service, and he's out of options. The Reds can control him through 2020 via a team option that carries a price tag of 5.5M$ or a 1M$ buyout.

    Off the 40 man:

RP Jared Hughes was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies, they'll be on the hook for the remainder of his 2019 contract (any additional incentives in his contract) as well as his 2020 team option.

    RP David Hernandez was released.

----The Reds 40 man roster remains at 40.

What is Finnegan's option status should he be added to 40?
The lowest acceptable payroll amount for ownership to show they are not greedy pigs is 15 million more than they are currently paying. No matter what that currently is.

He only needs 22 more days of big league service to qualify for arbitration this winter. If they wait till September 9th to add him to the 40 and 25 man roster they can avoid that. Not that he'd get a huge raise, but saving a couple hundred thousand dollars is in play.

He’ll still have one option year if/when repurchased.

Can you verify that Romano has burned his final option year? He burned options in 2017 and 2019, but I show him staying on the Reds roster all of 2018. It does not appear that they needed to add him to the roster in 2016.

His contract was initially purchased (AKA: Added to the 40 man roster) in November, 2015; to protect him from that year's upcoming Rule 5 Draft.

He burned an option in 2016, 2017, and now 2019. He can not be sent back to the minors without being placed on waivers.

Thanks. Wasn't sure about his being added for the 2016 season.

If an arbitrator judges a 1.5 WAR yr for Bauer as being worth over $18mill then something's wrong. He goes from over 5 WAR to one and a half yet he gets a $5mill raise. Go figure

Players aren't paid for previous performance. Their wages are determined by the free market, and that's likely what he'd get on a one-year deal as a free agent because teams understand there is more to predicting future performance than a single previous season. Do you have an issue with free markets determining the value of the players?
