    Joey Votto: It’s Not Over

It was his first career pop-out to first base Wednesday against the Dodgers that solidified that Votto's game is off, which prompted him to stick around the batting cages after the Reds' 3-2 loss. That's a sign that my hitting technique is completely off," Votto said, via The Athletic.

"There's a reason I just spent an hour hitting after a day game after a night game. It's not good. It's definitely not a good thing. I rarely do that. That's why when I saw (the pop to first), I was like, 'Ugh, I've got a lot of work to do.' But I'm going to put in the work, I'm confident it's going to come."

I do feel like I have some technical adjustments to make," he said. "Listen, I would be honest with you, I'm not ready to concede. It's just not over. It's just not over. I'm going to be an entertaining player, an entertaining hitter. It's not gone. I'm sorry, it's just not."

If it wasn’t over after the Japanese invaded Poland than I agree with the Canadian.

I think we will find out soon enough how done Votto is. If other teams think that he is done, they will start attacking him in the zone more often. I personally don't think he is done yet, but the number of pitches he sees in the zone and what he does with those should tell us. Just my opinion tho!!!

Re: Joey Votto: It’s Not Over

I love the attitude, but the greats very rarely think its over, even when its very clearly over. I'm not saying it IS over for Votto, not at all. Just that he's unlikely to be a good arbiter of that.

IIRC, he put in a bunch of extra hitting time this offseason. At some point, the problem isn't that he hasn't put in enough effort. He's either trying to do the wrong things or not physically capable of doing what he's trying to do. Again, I don't think he's there yet, but I do wonder about how his approach is going to age as he loses reaction time and bat speed.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

It wasn't over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, was it?

I don't know why anyone would even consider "giving up" on Votto after the career he's had with the Reds. I accept the fact that he's 35, things are gonna start to slide, but he's going to still be a productive player, and one of the best on the team. And he is going down fighting (LOL).
