    Any experience with retina problems?

I had emergency surgery for a detached retina Friday night (scleral buckle), and itís been pretty miserable. Iíve read conflicting accounts about how well vision bounces back after that procedure. Fortunately Iím young, but it still makes me nervous. Anybody had RD surgery who can speak to its effectiveness?

Mind your eye health, folks. I wish I had.

My wife had a detached retina a few years back but they did the pneumatic retinopexy procedure where they inject a gas bubble into the eye and it pushes the retina back into place. She essentially had to spend the rest of that day and all night with her face facing down to keep the bubble if the correct position. As far as I know her vision is back 100% to where is was before the retina detached.

My mom had the same procedure with the buckle a couple years ago, WildcatFan. I feel for you, I know she had a miserable experience with hers as well, as far as the surgery and immediate recovery, but I am happy to report her vision returned, if not 100%, better than 90%, and certainly way way way way better than it was pre-surgery. And she was in her mid-60s.

    Good luck, friend!

Thanks, guys. I’ve done a little too much Google on this one and gotten myself a bit pessimistic about my vision returning to where it was, so it’s good to hear from actual humans (that I’ve never met on the internet but seem very nice). This week has been crap, but it feels like I’m starting to make progress.
