I'm not a subscriber to the theory that hitting coaches can turn all these guys from trash to treasure (pitching coaches either). I just think some guys do. Whena high profile guy does it, and credits his coach (who did have a role in throwing BP, etc), it gets blown out of proportion and can't be repeated. Leo Mazzone sure didn't do anything with the staff when he went to Baltimore. George Brett credited Charlie Lau, but did you ever hear of any other player that Lau worked miracles with? It's about the players IMO. Maybe VanMeter is just maturing. That would be my take. 24 is still a baby IMO.
