The dugouts are different here. It’s like the guys in the dugout are just standing at field level, no nets, with their hands in their pockets basically.

It was a 1 hop throw from votto...maybe if it would of been straight to glove could of focused on the tag better instead of picking the ball clean then making tag...?

Exactly. A lot of catchers don't field that hop cleanly. After that, it's a split second guess as to whether the runner goes inside or outside. Two good throws, a good grab at the plate. Just fortunate, aggressive baserunning won this time.

Those of you who were catchers of any distinction. I was always taught to chuck your mask once the ball is in play. Tucker left it on. Is that the way guys are taught now? I wonder if he would have had a bit more peripheral vision if he'd taken it off.

Excellent slide by Profar going in a straight line to the outside of the plate where Tucker was going to try to tag, then abruptly stabbed his foot to the inside of the plate. Maybe a sweep tag would have worked better for Tucker.

I’d say 9 out of 10 catchers miss that tag. Tucker did everything right, Piscotty just out played him.
