Even the announcers seem to know what a bad decision it was to put Hernandez back out there. A bit surprised but credit to both LeCure and Piecoro for calling Bell out in the postgame.

Rob Murphy. Frank Williams. John Franco. They would go 2 innings it seemed every other night.
    Different era.

Liked Murphy, one year (maybe more) he was lights out.

Yes I know. Different era which was my comparison of using Hernandez after 2 yesterday.
Not a problem in itself for me but nowadays unlike the 80s or even 90s these guys just don’t seem built for it.
Some like Bentances from the Yankees are.

Murphy. Loved that guy and his love of silk underwear

    1986- very lights out
1987-88 good but heavy workload began to take its toll
1989 pitched good for Boston in the Benzinger-Esasky trade but was worn out.

Maybe some of those other guys were unavailable for some reason.

Lorenzen was up and throwing and didn't pitch on Saturday. He chose to go to Hernandez again. Hernandez has been his best reliever IMO, and I guess that's why they went to him. Lorenzen makes me nervous, but he was rested and has been good this year. He was the obvious choice IMO. He was already loose and it was the best bullpen management to use him instead of burning somebody else. Hughes hadn't pitched since Wednesday. Hernandez had pitched 3 of the last four days including 2 innings yesterday.

Is there a rule that the Reds have to give up the lead and lose a game if they’ve won their previous 1-2 games?
