    "Academic Status" Breakdown

    4yr SR (14)

    Evan Kravetz (LHP)
    TJ Hopkins (CF)
    Jake Stevenson (RHP)
    Garrett Wolforth (C)
    Matt Lloyd (OF)
    Patrick Raby (RHP)
    Tyler Garbee (RHP)
    Warren Cameron (1B)
    JC Keys (RHP)
    Quinten Sefcik (RHP)
    Justin Gomez (C)
    Danny Serrino (RHP)
    Caleb Van Blake (2B)
    AJ Bumpass (CF)

    4yr JR (8)

    Nick Lodolo (LHP)
    Eric Yang (C)
    Quin Cotton (OF)
    Luke Berryhill (C)
    Jason Parker (RHP)
    Jason Ruffcorn (RHP)
    Quincy McAfee (SS)
    Matt Gill (RHP)

    4yr SO (1)

    Graham Ashcraft (RHP)

    JC2 (4)

    Ivan Johnson (2B)
    Jose Rodriguez (RHP)
    Ashton Creal (CF)
    Michael Miles (RHP)

    JC1 (1)

    Tanner Cooper (RHP)

    HS (12)

    Rece Hinds (SS)
    Tyler Callahan (3B)
    Wendell Merrero (RF)
    Yan Contreras (SS)
    Yamil Nieves (C)
    Yassel Pino (3B)
    Ryan Leitch (C)
    Trey Clarkson (LHP)
    Jason Hodges (RF)
    Alexander Johnson (RHP)
    Maxwell Romero (C)
    Matt McCormick (C)

    Thoughts:

    * Assumption 1: Not signing a Top 10 pick and losing their pick allotment would be disastrous (especially in the Top 5).

    * Assumption 2: The Reds likely spoke with each of their Top 10 picks prior to the draft and have a pretty good idea of what it will take.

    * The three toughest signs in the TOP 10 are (#2) Hinds, (#3 Callihan) & (#4) Johnson - they must be signed.

    * It would be a shock if any of the College Seniors didn't sign

    * Guessing at least 3/4 of the Juniors sign as well (why wait until next year when you have even less leverage?)'

    * The Sophomore (Ashcraft) is Top 10 and has injury issues. Can't see him returning to school.

    * Again, Johnson must be signed and there's a good chance one or two of the other JC2's sign as well

    * Only a JC1 and a late pick - good chance Cooper doesn't ink

    * Hind & Callihan better sign. The Puerto Rico BB Academy kids have a decent history of signing, so I'll say 2, if not all three do. that would leave 7 HS SR's (all taken 25 or later) - I'll say 1 maybe 2 are signed.

That would put them in the 28-32 signee range which would probably be about right. Just my WAG's though.

    * Was hopeful when lefties Lodolo & Kravetz were the first two arms on the board, but came back to earth when only one more southpaw (#33 Terry Clarkson) was taken (and he's unlikely to sign).

They’re gonna sign the Top 5 guys, I’d put the odds they don’t at slim and none.

I'll be pretty surprised if #36 Alexander Johnson doesn't sign. This kid is a project with real potential so I hope Reds people can convince him that his best route is pro coaching

Re: 2019 Reds Draft Picks Signing Tracker and Chat

I pulled this from an article about the Yankees selecting Jack Leiter in the 20th round. It's a good explanation for the bonus system following the first 10 rounds. The Reds have selected some interesting players in these later rounds where this can come into play. Keep in mind too, a club can go above their allotted pool, but have to pay a penalty for exceeding that. If they exceed that pool by 5 percent, they lose a draft pick (something no club has done). So the Reds could conceivably pay an extra $476,430 and incur an additional penalty of 75% of that amount ($357,322.50).

Here's the bit from the Yankees-Leiter article:

Any draftee taken after the 10th round can be signed for up to $125,000 without counting towards that bonus pool. But any signing for more than $125,000 requires using money from the $7.45 million allotment. So if a 12th-round pick signs for $200,000 that signing will take $75,000 ($200,000 minus the $125,000 allowed to be spent on late-round picks) of the Yankees’ $7.45 million pool allotment.

Of course someone named "Berryhill" is a country singer. Of course. (not bad though)

Looks like no Maxwell Romero for us:

Pembroke Pines Charter catcher Maxwell Romero, ranked the No. 234 prospect in the nation, got a call from the Reds in the second round. But when the two sides couldn’t agree on a signing bonus, Romero went undrafted until the 38th round (Reds) and will continue with his plan to attend Vanderbilt.

Hinds, an LSU signee, is a 6-foot-4 infielder from IMG Academy in Florida with raw power and tons of upside. He shot up the boards in the past year, and LSU has been expecting Hinds to sign and go pro. The slotted signing bonus at No. 49 is $1,507,600.

Report: Tyler Callihan agrees to $1.5 million deal with Reds
Former Providence slugger was a third-round pick in MLB draft

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - It didn't take long for Tyler Callihan to start the next phase of his baseball career.
The Providence infielder agreed to terms on Thursday with the Cincinnati Reds, according to MLB Pipeline. The signing was first reported by Jon Heyman of the MLB Network. According to those reports, Callihan got significantly more than his draft position at No. 85 overall in the third round.

Callihan's slot bonus was $710,700 and he reportedly will get $1.5 million from the deal. That was enough to allow Callihan to make his move into professional baseball and not play in college at South Carolina. He had previously signed with the Gamecocks. Callihan said on Wednesday that he was stressed during the process, but happy with how things played out.
