    18 Games to .500

I've always said if the Reds can get to .500 by the All-Star break then anything is possible. There are 18 games remaining and they are 7 games under .500. I was ready to walk away yesterday if they lost (so I said to myself). Every time they win, they suck me in. Is it possible that this team can be sitting at .500 at the All-Star break?

    Possible but not probable.

More and more as the season progresses, the narrative seems to be that the Reds are improved over the last few years, but they just can't get a win streak going to save their lives.

Highly unlikely. Except for the brief two game series against the Angels everyone else is over .500. Very, very tough stretch of games until the all star break.

The inconsistent performance of the offense has made sustained winning impossible. If a couple of bats catch fire for a two week period, it could happen. I’m not expecting much at this point, but I haven’t totally given up yet either. That, at least, is an improvement over the past few seasons. With some minor tweaks, this is a pretty good team.

Two series against the Brewers, one against the Astros, one against the Cubs with a pair of two-gamers with the Indians and Angels. They'd have to take 12 of them just to get a game under at the break.

What is their longest winning streak this season anyway?

We need a plague to strike everyone else in the central.

4 games when they swept the Marlins and won the first game against STL coming off the 1-8 start.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Good start tonight. If you can win a series against one of the best teams in baseball, that's a confidence boost. They need a hot streak. Hurry up please it's time.

I just can’t believe how every single position player we were expecting to carry this team is underperforming. I still don’t think it’s sustainable. Winker, Votto, and Puig have to step up for the remainder of the season. Or at least two of the three. Geno needs to get hot, too. It’s just too hard to believe they’ll all tread water like this for the rest of the season.

They need a stretch for about three weeks where they are the best team in baseball.

I hope this .500 by the ASB works out, but my goals are a bit softer.

I'm rooting for Reds to stay out of fifth place in the Central; and for them to beat last year's 67 wins by ten or more.

I hope the more optimistic folks are right and something great happens. But even if not, there's progress being made.

Could use some hot bats, either way.

This team could look very different by late July. Most everyone would agree that the Reds are not competitive enough to be buyers near the deadline. Since we have so many players only under contract this year the team would be best served by moving most of them and get something of value in return.

I do not expect the Reds to be close to a 500 team by season's end because they should be sellers and hopefully building a better farm system with some trades. I don't think they will get much for the current one and done guys on the roster, but its realistic they can bolster the farm system a little. I also think it is unlikely they spend the money it would take to extend some of these guys but I do wish they would with a few of them.

I still view this as progress though and I guess that is as good as I can hope for right now.
