Rate Reds Cy Young Seasons

Had there been a Cy Young award during his career Bucky Walters would have been a three time winner and probably would be in the Hall of Fame. Walters clearly would have won the award in his MVP winning season of 1939, when he lead the NL in wins [27], ERA, and strikeouts. He also would have won the Cy Young in 1940, when he again lead the NL in wins [22] and ERA for the world champs. He probably would have copped a third Cy Young in 1944 when he again lead the NL in wins with 23.

There are posts in this thread stating that Tom Seaver should have been the 1981 Cy Young winner. Tom was terrific in 1981, but three other pitchers also had good arguments for the award.
Seaver ranked 5th in NL pitchers WAR in 1981 with 4.0. Seaver went 14-2 with a 2.54 ERA , 6 complete games, 166 innings pitched, 87 Ks and a 140 ERA+.
Nolan Ryan had a 4.7 WAR, going 11-5 with a 1.69 ERA, 5 complete games, 149 innings, 140 Ks, and a 195 ERA+.
Cy Young winner Fernando Valenzuela had a 4.8 WAR, going 13-7 with a 2.48 ERA, 11 complete games, 192 innings, 180 Ks, and a 135 ERA+.
Steve Carlton lead the NL in pitcher WAR with 5.5, going 13-4 with a 2.42 ERA, 10 complete games, 190 innings, 179 Ks and a 151 ERA+.
I would probably vote for Carlton.

It is hard to choose between Zach Stewart's multiple Cy Young seasons but I would have to go with his third if I had to select one.

Johnny Cueto's 2014 was incredible, especially given the degree of difficulty pitching half his games in Williamsport, PA, errrrrr... GABP.
