You can cherry pick any span of time that you want to. Why not post the stats from April and May? People now want to forgive his slow start but if he was hitting like a future hof'er making 25 million in those months they might have won 4 or 5 more games them. 5 more wins sure would be nice now. I am not complaining about Votto because he works very hard and when he signed that contract he was worth alot of money based upon his production AT THAT TIME. We are now going to be paying a huge amount of money to a declining player for what he did 5 years ago. Votto is great. His contract was foolish.

Joey is obviously a quirky guy and so understanding what makes him tick is a challenge. But it is curious he has appeared willing or even interested in sticking around through the dumpster fire of the last 5 years.

The choice at the time was to either sign him for that money at the time or to trade him. trading him in the middle of the Reds previous contention window would have been subjected to much criticism around here at the time.

He will more than pay out the value of that contract over it's length, it's just that he paid out way more initially, and now is the time when he'll pay out less in production than the value.

It's not Votto's fault the Reds wasted his last few prime years with the worst Sp in MLB history. If we had put this staff together in 2017 we could've made the playoffs with Votto having an MVP year.

the thing is if the Reds would have just let it play out they would have had him under team control till 2013. which is win the competitive window closed anyway. That's not Joey votto's fault so I'm not putting it on him that's Bob and Walt's fault

Not blaming Votto at all just pointing out that his bat speed has slowed down. He has shortened his stride big time which lets him get the bat started quicker to compensate. Castellini will have to eat some salary indeed, but the price of putting a winning team capable of making the playoffs on the field.

Im not sure what teams would even want Votto at this point. Would have to be an AL team so he could DH.

    One more time.

    You can't trade Joey Votto.
He has a no trade clause in his contract and he has said many times he will not give up that right, he wants to play here until he retires.

Peraza is a backup 2B/CF at best. His days of being considered a starter are rapidly waning. As we’ve witnessed with Iglesias and now Galvis, there are better options available fairly easily.

No trade clause or not, the Reds would have to attach value to Votto to trade him. Or eat 3/4 of his contract. That’s an albatross especially in a market like Cincy

Probably not today ...or even before 4:05 pm..

I guess a sense of tradition in baseball is dead. I can't even imagine anyone demanding to trade Johnny Bench or Dave Concepcion ..
