Re: 2019 Cincinnati Bengals Part 3

Pro Football Talk reported earlier on Thursday that the offensive tackle got into an altercation with a member of Bengals coaching staff
    Gee I wonder who...

If Turner isn't fired at season's end, I'll be... not surprised at all. No one wants to play for this dude, but him and Zac Attack are "pals," so all good.

And what's up with AJ Green? You already know. He pretty much said so in his last interview. "It's a business." He knows he won't be traded. He doesn't care about that. He'll sit out until he is absolutely 100 percent. Not 99 percent, not 98.5 percent. 100. Then... it's time to audition for whoever will be his fresh start next season. I expect he'll put on quite the show. ...on his way out.

Dave Shula has the 3rd worst all-time winning percentage for head coaches. Zac Attack will pass him on that list in year 3. Mark that down too. This franchise is a dumpster fire, even by Lost Decade standards.

“I hate the word, ‘competitive,’” Krall said. “I hate the word ‘competitive’ because that means you played just good enough to lose.

Re: 2019 Cincinnati Bengals Part 3

From what Dehner said today the crux of the issue was Glenn being moved to Guard so the situation has been bubbling since training camp.

He's been cleared since Weds...not sure what else could have been done in this case.

Quote below is from Dehner who is still pretty clued in to the team and writes for the Athletic.

Glenn has seen many, many doctors, independent, specialists and otherwise, as you would expect from someone in protocol this long. For him to be fully cleared for practice as he was Wednesday, there was a lot of paperwork involved in all that from everyone.
If you have a losing record at Reds games, please stop going.

Had he asked for a trade I am sure Mike Brown would have granted it as he would love to get out of that contract...4.5 mil saved to release him today if they choose to do so.
If Glenn was released the PR nightmare would be huge.

It’s one thing when it’s Carson Palmer doing it for the reasons he did, but the CTE crowd would be all over Cincinnati and I think Mike Brown knows it.

Slam article on OL coach Turner:

The Bengals deserve the disaster artist known as Jim Turner
Like it or not, the Bengals’ calamitous 2019 season has been heavily influenced by their infamous offensive line coach.

It's not an issue if you give him an injury settlement. But, to do that, you have to first not be a greedy cheapskate of a family.

Re: 2019 Cincinnati Bengals Part 3

So from what Jay Morrison wrote the Bengals side of things is beginning to take shape:

What we do know is Glenn still is on the team, has been fined, did not travel to the Pittsburgh game against team wishes, missed meetings and — after Thursday — missed practices despite being fully cleared.
Would love to hear Glenn's side of the story but he hasn't had much to say other then "cut me".

As an isolated incident, Glenn's story looks pretty shaky.

    So did Carson Palmer's.
    So did Corey Dillon's.
    So did Carl Pickens.
    So did Lee Johnson's.
    So did Dan Wilkensons.

Oh wow, there's even more. There's a variable conga line of disgruntled former Bengal players, all disgruntled at Mike Brown. And all for the same reason. Money? Hardly. No... The reason is always the same.

Dude's not even trying to win.

Show me any other example of this in professional sports. At some point you would think the commissioner would get involved. And he has. But Mike Brown knows all too well what he is legally entitled to.

    Such a crock..

Really Lee Johnson the punter...a disgruntled punter...please
Dillon and Palmer wanted out so I will give you that as both were model citizens here...but the other examples are very weak. Pickens and Big Daddy lacked motivation and only wanted to play when they wanted to play... sounds an awful lot like Glenn. In fact both Pickens and Big Daddy didn't do much of anything once they left the team which shows a change of scenery isn't always what a player needs. I agree the org is a mess but I am not going to throw them under the bus for how they handled the Glenn situation especially when the majority of the beat writers are reporting on how patient the team was with this situation.

    Johnson didn't leave disgruntled.

He was cut because he questioned the front office.

"The Cincinnati Bengals released 14-year veteran punter Lee Johnson today, a day after he suggested the front office needs to change.

General manager Mike Brown told reporters the move had nothing to do with Johnson’s comments following a 33-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Johnson figured there was no other reason for the team to get rid of him.

``I’m sure I was released because of what I said,″ said Johnson, called out of a meeting this morning and told of the move. ``I meant what I said, but I didn’t think it was that incredible.″...

..."During the loss Sunday, about two dozen banners decked Cinergy Field calling for Brown to step down as general manager. After the game, Johnson said he wouldn’t have bought a ticket if he were a fan.

``No, no way,″ Johnson said. ``You’re saying (losing) is OK. I guess if you’ve got nothing else to do. I’d sell my tickets.″

He also said that the front office’s methods aren’t working. The Bengals haven’t had a winning record since Brown took control of the team following his father’s death before the 1991 season."...

Preceding this was Pickens running his mouth. The Bengals then put clauses in contracts that said that saying anything detrimental about the club was grounds for release. Such language was banned in the subsequent CBA.

Well known throughout Cincinnati as the Carl Pickens Clause.
