Re: NBA 2019-2020: Band in China

    Let the circus begin.

Dame's high minutes have come back to get him. He checks himself back in the game last night with 6 minutes left down 20 and now he's out with back spasms. He went into last night's game with back issues according to Stotts, and if that was true, then why not rest him last night against HOU and Thursday at MIL, both games they had/have very little chance of winning and instead play him against New Orleans and the other two road games coming up.

So, of course Melo is Starting tonight. Stotts said he would play 20 minutes and asked Melo if he would like to start or come off the bench. Of course, Melo isn't going to back up a 19-year-old Rookie, so Little is going back to the bench. I assume Simons is starting for Dame.

I suppose at the first home game, all 20,000 fans should wear a hoodie to welcome Melo. I think I'll wear my Bengals dark brown hoodie. It cost enough and I have to find some reason to wear it.

In case anyone is wondering why Melo isn't wearing #7 and is going to wear 00, is because Roy wore #7. If anyone is wondering why #7 isn't retired, it's because Roy stiffed Paul Allen for $17M when he played those 6 games in MIN. Allen couldn't insure all of the contract and Roy knew this. Roy isn't the goodie-two-shoes person his outward persona makes him out to be. He had his bad side like a lot of people do. I could tell you stories about him.

Well, I can only hope for the best and that the aura of those who wore #00 before him, Pryzbilla, Duckworth and Robin Lopez, all rub off on him. That is a well-respected number around here.

What makes Cummings' career so great is that he survived being drafted by Donald Sterling.

In the first half, Carmelo is the only Starter with a negative +/-, and it's a huge -11. Nassir Little has a team-leading +12.

That said, it's been a smooth transition to begin the "Melo Era".

edit...game is over. Little was the only Trailblazer to play well (+8 with every other Blazer negative, including Melo at -20). Hood and Bazemore continue to regress/get exposed Defensively, and Hood plays like he smokes too much dope. Half the team does...Whiteside and Skal and Simons, too. Simons lacks most fundamentals. Little's fundamentals are tremendous.

The Starting Five I look forward to seeing on April 15th is Nurkic/Collins/Little/C.J./Dame, with the 6th, 7th and 8th players being Whiteside/Hood/Simons. We can win any playoff series with that rotation.

Caught some of the 2nd half. Stotts looked like he wanted someone to shoot him.

Yeah,...he calls a timeout down 12 because nobody was communicating and they turn it over in 3 seconds and allow a score. You probably saw that, too.

    Rotoworld's take:

Nassir Little returned to the bench in favor of Carmelo Anthony on Tuesday vs. the Pelicans, but had multiple career-highs with 12 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal, two blocks and two triples in 23 minutes.

Coach Terry Stotts is probably regretting those 24 Carmelo Anthony minutes, but then again he started him and said he planned to for the foreseeable future. Little has really started to look promising for the past week.

Carmelo Anthony's debut for the Blazers didn't go well, as he scored 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting with four boards, one block, two triples and five turnovers in 24 minutes.

He started and is expected to do so for the "foreseeable future," but not if he keeps playing like this. After a promising first quarter, Melo had multiple lapses on defense which has been the norm for him in recent years, he was careless with the ball and the shot selection wasn't great either -- he was 1-of-5 on mid-range shots and hit just 1-of-6 inside the paint.

Blazers are more than $20 million over the luxury tax, though, so they pay a tax penalty multiplier of 3.75 for every dollar that goes to Melo. That translates to about $50,715 per day for Jody Allen.

Once he passes 1/10th of the season (18 days), they are on hook for the remainder of his salary for the season whether they cut him by Jan. 7th to clear a roster spot, or not. He will cost Jody Allen $4.8M, while earning approximately $2.2M for himself, not bad for getting his butt off the couch and standing leisurely around a 3-point line on the Offensive end of the court jacking up shots at will with zero concept that there are a thousand other things he should be doing to help the team win.

Paul Allen would not have signed off on this, Anthony Toliver or Pau Gasol to be added to the team's roster. Olshey is playing with Jody Allen's money and looking like an idiot.

So Ben Simmons finally hit a 3 that actually matters.

Ben Simmons just spotted up and hit a corner three.

    For real.

    I'm so proud.

Pau Gasol retires. He may have some sort of coaching position with the Blazers.

Simmons messed up big-time. Now, people are gonna expect a 3 every year.

At that rate, Simmons will be eligible for AARP membership by the time he gets one game's worth for Harden.

Well, Gasol was signed, in part, for his leadership qualities. Maybe his retirement is setting an example...

    ...for Carmelo Anthony?

Luka beating up the Warriors in the 1Q. Dropped 22 in the first.

Does anyone feel sorry for the Warriors?
