The #Rays are in serious discussions with the #Padres on a trade that would send outfielder Tommy Pham and a prospect to San Diego for outfielder Hunter Renfroe and Class A shortstop Xavier Edwards, sources tell The Athletic.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

Perpetual churn. I get and agree with such thinking to a degree, but the Rays always take it to another next level. Pham was actually going to make arbitration money, so he has to go. I think they're the most joyless 90 win team to watch, because they don't get too far in the playoffs and the players are a collection of interchangable guys who probably won't be with the team next year.

The Rays remind me a lot of a major college basketball team in that regard.

You might fall in love with them, and come the first game next season it’s a whole different cast of characters. Lather, rinse and repeat each season.

But I’ll give them one thing, to compete like they have in the AL East on a budget so small while drawing practically no fans to the ballpark is nothing short of incredible.

I love that video so much, I wonder if I can get away with using his term for prospects on here.

Pham will be 32 on opening day and only has two years of control remaining. As a 2nd year arb guy he'll get 8 figures. His CF skills, if they still exist, are not being used in TB. At 32, he could be in for a start to hs decline phase and won't have the same value in the future. Renfro is 27, fist time arb and has 4 years of control, plus the Rays are getting a top 100 prospect.

I wonder if the Padres are planning to play Pham in CF between Myers and a Grisham/Margot platoon. If so, I wonder if Franchy Cordero is available. If the Reds sign a starter and could do something like Mahle for Cordero, I'd be all for it. I'd be interested in Manuel Margot as well.

Nice move by the Padres. I liked Pham on the Reds, but I'm not sure he's a true CF any longer. That should set the market for Marte, who holds a little more value than Pham but not much.

Winker/India is a better version of the package SD gave up, so I think our favorite proposal isn't too far off.

Is there a link to something I am missing here?

Cardinals fans claim that Tommy Pham is tough to deal with. That is why he was shipped out of StL. I would be very interested in the Reds trading Winker + mid level prospect(s) for Pham if Bell thought he could fit the team.

I was just trying to think up a comparable package from the Reds side...something like Winker and Garcia is what I landed on.

SD outfield is wicked fluid. They have Cordero/Margot/Pham/Grisham as CF options with Myers at one of the corners. They'll probably use Pham in the other corner and move one of Cordero/Margot for pitching depth, as mth noted. Margot would be a good buy-low guy for the Reds if they can't land Marte.

Reds need to add good offensive players to the lineup, I don’t see how Margot helps them.

Without Marte, Pham, or a similar CF pickup, or an Ozuna/Castellanos, I’d just go with Winker, Senzel, and Aquino.
