https://www.mlb.com/reds/news/mike-m...n-reds-in-2020It’s possible that Moustakas’ record free-agent contract will only stand for a few weeks or months. The Reds were finalists to sign starting pitcher Zack Wheeler before he agreed to a five-year, $118 million contract with the Phillies this week. They also tried to get catcher Yasmani Grandal, before he inked a four-year, $73 million deal with the White Sox.
Cincinnati had a club-record $126 million payroll in 2019, and that was expected to get a significant bump for '20. With Moustakas’ salary mostly backloaded, there is room for president of baseball operations Dick Williams and Krall to keep maneuvering.
“There will be a next, we can tell you that. We can’t tell you who,” Williams said. “We do have flexibility to keep going. We will continue to do deals. I’m not going to pin down a specific number, but we can do deals this big if we find the right fit that we need to have.”

I mean, you never want to have dead money on the roster.
But at the same time, The Reds have waaaaay more money available than they want any of us to know about. Even with this year supposedly being a “record” payroll by the time it’s all said and done, The Reds will make money hand over fist.
They aren’t poor and they haven’t been for a long time. They’ve sure done a good job of convincing folks otherwise, though.
The fact that the franchise value has increased from $270M in 2005 to being valued at over $1B present day, and the fact that despite every other team being willing to release the terms of their massive TV contracts, The Reds have been super secretive about theirs, saying only “well, it’s in the ballpark of what you might expect.”
They have the money.
The television crews left and about 10 reporters remained in the room. That's when Price took his turn doing the talking.
What followed was a five-minute, 34-second expletive-filled tirade. The final tally was 77 uses of the "F" word or a variant and 11 uses of a vulgar term for feces (two bovine, one equine).
