I am planning a grotto to Saint Don in my yard...can I have FCB's kid for a couple days to haul the rocks?

I believe he's handling the scheduling. I've got him for 4 days next month while we're adding a deck.

Sorry, rila!

Here's to reality going against all your "Jimmy-predictions" so far. That long skid gets bumped back again! The REDS love to score when he has pitched lately (8, 7 and 6 runs).

I know what you have been saying was a safer bet (and I too felt that way), but Shine On You Crazy Diamond... Jimmy Haynes! Like a diamond in the rough maybe? GO Jimmy and REDS!

NL pitchers with at least 10 wins in 2002:

Schilling, Johnson, Glavine, Ishii, Perez, Padilla, Morris, Haynes.

What are the chances that the Reds could get a Jim Edmonds-like player, much like the Cards did when they traded Bottenfield after his 18-win season?

Does John Paul II handle this beatification stuff directly, or does he have some staff or a committee that does the initial legwork?

There's a rather large committee that looks extensively into the life of the candidate. We would have to wait until he's dead, but once Don is, the process can begin. Then miracles can be determined and authenticated (I think he needs two, maybe four). If he's lucky, he could be canonized before the year 2100. Hey, it took Padre Pio 34 years after he died and he was a shoe-in.

And just an observation from my recent trip to the Vatican: John Paul II looks very ill. The cardinals very well could be locking themselves in the Sistine Chapel shortly.

Think that might count as one?

Jimmy is treading on sacred ground.

Since 1900 only 14 pitchers have started 25 games, won 16 and had an era above 4.44

Currenty Jimmy has 18 starts, 10 wins and an ERA of 4.44

Could he be on this list?

YEAR ERA GS W
1 Jack Powell 1900 4.44 37 17
2 Robin Roberts 1956 4.45 37 19
3 Steve Blass 1969 4.46 32 16
4 Garrett Stephenson 2000 4.49 31 16
5 Lon Warneke 1937 4.52 33 18
6 Erv Brame 1929 4.54 28 16
7 Burleigh Grimes 1922 4.69 34 17
8 Erv Brame 1930 4.73 29 17
9 Phil Collins 1930 4.78 25 16
10 Scott Elarton 2000 4.81 4.81 30 17
11 Kevin Tapani 1998 4.85 4.85 34 19
12 Ray Kremer 1930 5.02 5.02 38 20
13 Pedro Astacio 1999 5.04 5.04 34 17
14 Kevin Ritz 1996 5.28 5.28 35 17

(Leaving all seriousness aside...)

Better to make Don a "saint" rather than a priest or a bishop

(Reason? He couldn't be trusted with the young pitchers)

Hey woy - didja notice that 5 of those 14 (over 1/3) have turned the trick since 1996? And all 5 of those guys did it in the NL.

(Hello, Coors Field.)

Back to the subject... FCB, how about a few more wagers, please. You could ante up your 2nd born if Junior plays in every game the rest of the year, your 3rd born if Danny Graves doesn't blow any more saves, etc.

The ones between 1922 and 1937 are in the midst of the first offensive explosion and Steve Blass is pitching the year the mound was dropped (2.33 worse than the prior year, 2 less wins)

Robin Roberts is the one that leaps out at me, his first plus 4.00 era of his career with a team that finishes under .500 and he wins 19 of his teams 71 victories.

I know everyone is worked up over a potential trade with the Marlins, but thought this should be brought back up to the top.

Tonight (7/11/02), Cincinnati "Ace" Jimmy Haynes takes his second stab at W #11.

Go get 'em Jimmah!
