    Cell phone question

I renewed at Cingular last November with a 2 year contract. I didn't get the phones insured, and I dropped mine the other day. Real hard. The phone works but the display looks like purple mountains now. They won't replace since I didn't insure them. :thumbdown I have been looking on eBay. I have a Motorola V220 phone. If I bought a new one still in the box, would it work if I just inserted my SIM card? Or would I have to take additional steps to activate it? Anyone knowledgeable in this area?
I've been to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's house, and I've eaten it at a homeless shelter. And there's great joy and harrowing terror to be found in both places.

This would be a good question to post over at http://cingular.howardforums.com.

That place is chock full of people who know the ins and outs of the wireless industry.
